SUBJECT AREA COORDINATOR DUTIES 

AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Job Title: Subject Area Coordinator Department: Curriculum and Instruction Subject
Area Coordinator (SAC) is head of the subject area task force and is responsible for the
organization, development, implementation, supervision, and evaluation of the program in
his subject area.

Primary Purpose:
1. Evaluate and provide leadership for the overall instructional programs of the subject
area.
2. Provide leadership and coordination to provide an aligned and articulated instructional
program in the subject area.
3. Assist in directing and managing instructional programs and operations at the campus
level.
4. Provide leadership to ensure high standards of instructional delivery.
5. Assist in the effective and efficient operations of the curriculum and instruction
department which includes curriculum, teachers’ development, and assessment.

Special Knowledge/Skills:
1. Knowledge of curriculum design and implementation
2. Ability to evaluate instruction programs and teaching effectiveness
3. Ability to develop and deliver training to teachers
4. Ability to implement and interpret policy, procedures, and data
5. Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Instructional and Program Management


1. Coordinate the review, development, and revision of all subject area programs and
related curriculum documents and materials, including curriculum guides, course outlines,
and teaching plans.
2. Work cooperatively with curriculum and instruction staff along with campus
principal/directress in developing and supervising the instructional programs in assigned
subject area.
3. Plans, improves, and oversees testing programs for the assigned subject area.
4. Coordinate the ordering and use of departmental instructional aids and materials for
assigned subject area.
5. Obtain and use evaluative findings (including student achievement data) to examine
curriculum and instruction program effectiveness for the assigned subject area.
6.Maintain a staff library of publications, supplementary materials, and supplies relevant
to the assigned subject area.
