PART 1- GENERAL

Where no material product or supplier is specified, propose suitable materials and systems

4. Where a particular material, product or supplier is specified, the material, product or supplier
shall be deemed to be indicative representing the Architects Design Intent only. Complete the
installation using the specified or other product acceptable to the Architect, in writing. Be
fully responsible for the Detailed Design and performance of the works. f
1.2 REFERENCE STANDARDS
A. Material and assemblies shall meet or exceed all applicable referenced standards, federal, state and
local requirements, and conform to codes and ordinances of authorities having jurisdiction.
B. The latest published edition of a reference shall be applicable to this Project unless identified by a
specific edition date.
c. All reference amendments adopted prior to the effective date of this Contract shall be applicable to
this Project.
D. All materials, installation and workmanship shall comply with all applicable requirements and
standards.

1.5 QUALITY ASSURANCE


A. Use materials and perform Work conforming to applicable building codes and requirements of local
authorities having jurisdiction.
B. Manufacturer Qualifications: A manufacturer with a minimum of 10 years experience in the design,
engineering, and fabrication of elastomeric expansion joint and expansion joint cover assemblies.
c. Installer Qualifications: All products listed in this section are to be installed by a single installer with
a minimum of five years demonstrated experience in installing products of the same type and scope
as specified.
D. Provide materials for mock ups, prototypes quality benchmark installations, testing and inspection in
accordance with section 01 40 oo Quality Requirements
E. Mock-Up: Provide a mock-up of the area indicated on the Drawings for evaluation of surface
preparation techniques and application workmanship.
1. Locate finish areas designated by Engineer.
2. Do not proceed with remaining work until workmanship and finish is approved by Engineer.
3. Refinish mock-up area as required to produce acceptable work.

F. Quality benchmark installation: complete one full bay plus one end interface detail and obtain
approval before proceeding with any other installations works

1.7 PROJECT CONDITIONS


A. Maintain environmental conditions (temperature, humidity, and ventilation) within limits
recommended by manufacturer for optimum results. Do not install products under environmental
conditions outside manufacturer's absolute limits.
B. Do not install interior products until installation areas are enclosed and conditioned. (
C. Do not install materials that are wet or those that are moisture damaged.

PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS

A. Fire Performance Characteristics: Where required, provide expansion joint cover assemblies
identical to those of assemblies whose fire resistance has been determined per ANSI/UL 263, NFPA
251 or ASTM E119, and ASTM E814, including hose stream test at full-rated period by UL.

1. Fire Rating: Not less than the rating of adjacent construction.
B. Joint Movement: Design and fabricate Floor expansion joint cover assemblies to permit the following
amount of movement without disengagement or other damage:

E. Aluminum: Alloy 6063-T6, in accordance with ASTM B 221; mill finish.
F. Stainless Steel: ASTM A 176, Type 430, satin finish.
G. EPDM: ASTM D 2000.

INTERIOR JOINT SYSTEMS FOR FLOORS


A. System designed for movement transitions between floor surfaces. System consists of L-shaped
metallic units on both sides of gap, and related anchors. For use in transitions between floor
assemblies.
1. Acceptable product: Full flush plate saddle.
a. Joint Width: 1omm.
b. Joint Width: somm.
c. Total Joint Movement: See Performance Requirements of this Section.
2. Finished surfaces of expansion joints in floors must be stainless steel with a satin finish. In
accordance with the Architects design intent. Elastomeric polymer must be covered with a
stainless steel plate that is flush with finished floor surface.
3. Provide approp1iate fasteners, adhesives, and accessories as required to properly complete
expansion joint cover installation, prepackaged with expansion joint covers in maximum
lengths possible.

2.5 ELASTOMERIC SEAL SYSTEMS


A. System designed for movement transitions between Buildings Constructions and Bridges ceilings
and walls. System consists of elastomeric seals, and related anchors. For use in transitions in
concrete, and gypsum board assemblies.
1. Acceptable product: EMSHIELD WFR2 System.
a. Joint Width: 30mm.
b. Total Joint Movement: See Performance Requirements of this Section.
c. Fire Performance Characteristics: Not less than adjacent Building Elements
2. Color: White.
B. System designed for Interior Horizontal Locations for movement transitions between floor surfaces
and walls. System consists of elastomeric seals, and related accessories. For use in transitions in
Access Floor Panels to Metal Skirting profiles.
1. Acceptable product: Silka Silkaflex 2c SL
a. Joint Width: 10mm.
2. Color: Black.

PART 3 - EXECUTION

3.1 EXAMINATION
A. Verification of Conditions: Examine areas and conditions under which work is to be performed and
identify conditions detrimental to proper and or timely completion.
1. Verify that joint preparation and affected dimensions are acceptable.
2. Confirm that selected expansion joint covers are appropriate for actual joint dimensions.
3. Joint surfaces to receive seal shall be sound, smooth, straight, parallel, clean, dry and free of
all visible contaminants. I

3.2 INSTALLATION
A. Install in accordance with manufacturer's printed installation instructions

B. Align work level and flush with adjacent surfaces, and rigidly anchor to substrate. Make allowances
for structural gap that varies at time of installation from nominal design gap.
c. Fire Rated Assemblies: Where expansion joint covers are required in fire rated construction, install
fire rated systems to comply with manufacturer's requirements and in strict conformance with tested
assemblies. t
3·3 CLEANING
A. Clean adjacent surfaces and remove unused product and debris from site. t
B. After installation is completed, clean soiled surfaces of materials according to manufacturer's

Protect installed products until completion of project.
