REPORT

On the morning of March 3rd, the RSHS-IX Covered Court was abuzz with excitement as the
Philippine Heart Association (PHA) was scheduled to give a seminar on cardiopulmonary
resuscitation (CPR) to senior high school students. The students were eager to learn and listened
attentively as the PHA gave lectures on various topics related to heart health.

Dr. Eleanor Yeo started the seminar by introducing the "52100" movement, which encouraged
students to eat five fruits and vegetables per day, limit social media use to two hours per day, exercise
for at least an hour daily, avoid sugary drinks, and say no to smoking. After this, Dr. Kenneth Marie
Transport gave an informative presentation on the symptoms and impact of cardiovascular diseases,
specifically unstable angina and angina pectoris.

The PHA then demonstrated how to perform hands-only CPR as an immediate aid to a
casualty. As demonstrated by Dr. Kristine Bantala-Supnet, CPR is performed starting from the
sternum. Give two fingerbreadths above and put the heel of your palm above the two fingerbreadths.
Interlock both hands and straighten both elbows. Derive energy from your shoulders and proceed to
30 chest compressions and 2 breaths (30:2). After performing CPR, participants were advised to
check for signs of life by checking the pulse, the victim's gasping or recovery of normal breathing,
any pupillary response, or any movements.

The seminar ended with a closing remark by Amelyn Ulanghuta, the Vice President of the
PHA Zam-Pen Chapter. After the meeting, everyone gathered on stage and in front to take pictures of
the seminar for documentation. The seminar lasted for about 2-3 hours, concluding around 10 a.m.
The students then went back to their classrooms to prepare for convocation later in the afternoon.

The seminar was a huge success, and the students left with a wealth of knowledge on how to
perform CPR as an active, non-medical bystander. They also learned about the importance of heart
health and the precautions they can take to prevent cardiovascular diseases. The seminar was an
excellent example of how education can empower individuals to take charge of their health and well-
