RECAP
Multiple Choice Directions: Read each item carefully. Choose the letter of the
correct answer and write it on the blank provided at the left side.
_________ 1. is an electrical component that can disconnect or connect the
conducting path in an electrical circuit?
A. Contactors C. Relays B. Conductors D. Switch
_________2. is an electrically operated switch. It consists of a set of input
terminals for a single or multiple control signals.
A. Contactors C. Relays B. Conductors D. Switch
__________ 3. is an electrical device which is used for switching an electrical
circuit on or off.
A. Contactors B. Conductors C. Relays D. Switch
__________ 4. providing a place in a wiring system where current can be taken
to run electrical devices.
A. Contactors B. Receptacles C. Relays D. Switch
__________ 5. is an object or type of material that allows the flow of charge
(electrical current) in one or more directions.

Lesson:
Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI)
Information Outdoor receptacles including
those in kitchens, bathrooms, and places near
the water should be the ground fault circuit
interrupting type (GFCI). A ground fault circuit
interrupter (GFCI) could be modestly priced
device commonly installed in residential
electrical circuits. https://cutt.ly/6kjigI1
The GFCI is intended to protect people and pets from severe or perhaps
fatal, electrical shock. A GFCI detects ground faults and interrupts the flow of
electrical current. Picture a blow drier that is accidentally knocked off a
bathroom counter and into a bathtub filled with water. The GFCI will stop the
flow of electricity within milliseconds when the hair dryer hits the surface of the
water. If someone was in the bathtub, a painful shock will still be felt but the
GFCI will prevent their electrocution or serious injury. The GFCI will “sense” the
difference within the amount of electricity flowing into the circuit to that

flowing out, even in amounts of current as small as 4 or 5 milliamps. The GFCI
reacts quickly (less than one-tenth of a second) to trip or shut off the circuit.
2. Temporary/Portable GFCI.
When a permanent GFCI is not practical,
temporary GFCI is used. Temporary GFCI
contains the GFCI circuitry in an enclosure
with plug prongs at the back and
receptacle plugs in front. It can be
plugged into an unprotected outlet, and
then the electrical appliance/device is
plugged into the temporary GFCI. Portable
GFCI is simply an extension cord combined
with a GFCI. It adds flexibility in using
receptacles that are not protected by
GFCl. Extension cords with GFCI protection
incorporated are great for use when
permanent or portable GFCI protection is
unavailable. https://cutt.ly/gkjg6u

3. Circuit Breaker GFCI.
Residences equipped with circuit breakers
must have circuit breaker GFCI protection
installed in the panel box to give protection for
specific circuits. The circuit breaker GFCI serves
two functions: a.) the circuit breaker GFCI will
shut off power to the circuit in the instance of
a ground fault; and b.) the GFCI protected
circuit breaker will turn power off if a short
circuit or overload is detected.

True or False
Directions: Write C if the Statement is Correct and W if it is Not
1. Receptacle GFCI is used in place of a regular wall outlet or “duplex
receptacle.”
2. Circuit Breaker GFCI is normally found throughout the house in places such
as bathrooms, kitchens, garages, outdoor areas and other locations where
damp conditions may exist.
3. The receptacle GFCI fits into the standard outlet box and does not protects
you against ground faults when an electrical product is connected to the
GFCI protected outlet.
4. Portable GFCI is simply an extension cord combined with a GFCI and are
great for use when permanent or portable GFCI protection is unavailable.
5. The circuit breaker GFCI serves two functions:
a.) the circuit breaker GFCI will not shut off power to the circuit in the
instance of a ground fault; and
b.) the GFCI protected circuit breaker will not turn power off if a short circuit
or overload is detected.
