Fuse is defined as an overall current protective device with a circuit opening fusible
element which opens (break) when there is an over current in the circuit.
Generally, fuse that consists of a fusible link or wire that easily melts at low
temperature can be classified into two types:
1. The Cartridge type which is enclosed in an insulating fiber tube.
2. The Plug Fuse type which is enclosed in a porcelain cap.

Circuit Breaker is an overcurrent protective device designed to function as a switch.
Basically, a circuit breaker is equipped with an automatic tripping device to
protect the branch circuit from overload and ground fault. Circuit Breaker can be manually
tripped, so that, in many cases, it also acts as circuit switch.

Let’s Apply
Column A Column B
______1. Circuit Breaker a. an overall current protective device
______2. Panel Board with a circuit opening fusible element.
______3.Trip b. enclosed in a porcelain cap.
______4.Fuse c. enclosed in an insulating fiber tube.
______5.Cartridge typed d. simply the box wherein the protective
devices are grouped from which they are fed
e. an overcurrent protective device
designed to function as a switch.
f. refers to cutting-off or disconnection of
the current supply.

Let’s Analyze
_____1. It can stay on its position for years and act when called on to act as
designed.
_____2. It acts as a switch aside from its being an overcurrent protective device.
_____3. It trips off automatically and after correcting the fault, it is again
readily available for switch on.
_____4. It has several moving parts which require maintenance
and periodic testing to be in good condition at all times.
_____5. It can be the multiple poles installed with 1,2 or 3 poles which
simultaneously protect and switch one to three lines.
