WORKSHOP ON THE DEVELOPMENT OF READING MATERIALS FOR THE BRIGADA

PAGBASA

In response to the Brigada Pagbasa program which is a national movement for reading that aims to
bring together all education champions and supporters to contribute to nation building by helping all
Filipino children learn to read in the context of partnership, the Division of Kalinga through the
Curriculum Implementation Division conducted a training-workshop on the on development of
Contextualized Reading materials to be used during the implementation of the Brigada Pagbasa last
December 17,and December 19-20, 2022 at Las Vegas Hotel, Dagupan Tabuk City.

On the first day, Ma’am Evelyn Ganotice talked about Learning Activity Sheets where she defined
what Learning Activity Sheets are and she also discussed its importance. She also presented the
basic parts of Learning activity sheets which include teaching portion, learning activities, answer keys,
reflection 1 and reflection. After her discussion, Sir Romulo Galnawan, the CID chief gave us
encouraging words to do our best in developing supplementary earning activities with the goal of
improving learner’s outcomes and achievement. We utilized the whole afternoon in making Learning
Activity sheets which we can use as a remediation for our struggling learners.

On the second day, Ma’am Maribel Viernes discussed about Phil-Iri. According to her, the
components of the Phil-Iri 2014 includes group screening test, passages for oral reading, Filipino and
English, passages for silent reading in Filipino and English and comprehension questions. She also
discussed the formula in computing for Speed reading and comprehension. After her discussion, she
urged us to prepare our school data for Phil-Iri results which we will use in the development of our
project proposal. Our SDS, Sir Amador Garcia also visited the venue and he gave us encouraging
words. The rest of the day was utilized in the continuation of the learning activity sheets.

On the third day, Ma’am Journalisa Membrot discussed the project proposal format and the project
completion report including its attachments which are the attendance report, MOA, letters, evaluation
reports and other documents.

I have gained a lot of significant learning experiences during the seminar which I can use to make
reading more fun and engaging especially for my struggling students.
