“Respiratory Disease : Asthma”

One afternoon at the beach, there was a health student who was on duty to communicate
with a tourist.
Linda : “Hello sir, good afternoon”
Mr. A : “Good afternoon”
Linda : “I'm Linda, a student at the Polytechnic of Health Denpasar. Can I talk to you sir?”
Mr. A : “Oh…Sure I can, I'm Alex”
Linda : “Hello Mr. Alex, nice to meet you. I'm here to ask you something”
Mr. A : “Nice to meet you too, asking about what?”
Linda : “Before that have you ever heard of respiratory disease?”
Mr. A : “Hmm...is asthma including this?”
Linda : “Yes, asthma is one of them, sir. How do you know asthma?”
Mr. A : “It's because my mother has the disease”
Linda : “Oh, like that, sir. What things do you know about asthma?”
Mr. A : “I think asthma is the same as shortness of breath? Can asthma be contagious?”
Linda : “Asthma is a condition in which the airways become narrowed due to hyperactivity to
certain stimuli. Asthma is not contagious, sir, but asthma can be inherited through
genetic factors”
Mr. A : “Does that mean that if my mother has asthma, it's likely that I will too?”
Linda : “Yes, sir, you might get asthma because of heredity and it will easily happen if you
are exposed to the triggering factor”
Mr. A : “May I know, what are the factors that cause asthma?”
Linda : “The factors are allergens, respiratory infections, weather changes, work environment,
exercise and stress”
Mr. A : “Then how can I prevent from getting asthma?”
Linda : “You have to maintain health, keep the environment clean, avoid asthma triggers”
Mr. A : “I want to ask, what kind of environment can cause asthma to worsen?”
Linda : “An unfavorable environment such as a lot of pollution, vehicle fumes, cigarette
smoke”
Mr. A : “Oh like that, then why if my mother is in winter, her asthma will get worse?”
Linda : “That's because when cold air enters the respiratory tract, the lungs will react by
constricting the airways”
Mr. A : “Can asthma be cured?”
Linda : “Asthma cannot be completely cured, but asthma symptoms can be controlled and
treatment is still carried out regularly”
Mr. A : “Wow… like that, yes?”
Linda : “Yes sir, is there anything else you want to ask?”
Mr. A : “That's enough and thanks for the information”
Linda : “Thank you sir, enjoy your holiday and thank you for being able to talk to me”
