Our paper is far from perfect. And this is a good step away from the actual
study. Therefore, due to our limited time and ability, we always hope for
constructive criticism and suggestions, hopefully this paper can be useful for me

CHAPTER I
INTRODUCTION
When we meet someone and want to talk, we don't get to the point. We
will greet them first to show courtesy and friendliness. The greeting is usually
followed by small talk to lighten the mood. People who know each other and
see each other every day do not shake hands. However, for those who know
each other, but haven't seen each other for a long time, greetings become
enthusiastic and sometimes accompanied by gestures, such as shaking hands
between men and men, hugging between men and women, or kissing the
cheeks between women and men, woman.

1. Time-based Greetings
This type of expression of greeting is used based on the time when 2 people
meet and have conversational interactions.
Example 1:
Sandi: “Good
morning, Agnes”.
Agnes: “Good
morning”.
Example 2:
Budi: “Good
afternoon, Sandi”.
3
Ibid, 1.
Sandi: “Good
afternoon”.
Another Example:
From this example, Sandi and Ratna will not meet again until the next day. So
use the expression "good night" instead of "good bye".
2. Formal Greetings
When we meet someone for the first time, we usually say "How do you do".
Example:
Example:
Example:
From example 1, we can see that Anto and Radit are friends who meet every
day. 5
Anto asked how Radit was doing by using the expression "how are you today".
While in the second example, Susi and April are 2 friends who have only
recently met again.
The response to the greeting expression "How are you" is adjusted to the
conditions or circumstances of the other person. The following are commonly
used to respond.

3. Informal Greetings
Informal greetings are greeting expressions that are commonly used for
people who are close to us such as family and close friends. This
expression is usually used by young people with each other.
• Hi
• Hello
• What’s up?
• How’s life?
• How is it going?
• How is it going?
• The answers to this type of informal expression are quite varied. 6
• Phrases like “hi” or “hello”, the response is usually the same.
While other expressions can use the response as in the greetings
expression form. For example, “I am fine”, “Fine, thank you”. 7
First thing to do is to greet the person when you meet or leave them. Then,
introduce yourself you haven't known them. A good communication is about
giving the good attention and the proper response to the others. If you follow
the correct order, you will leave a good first impression on others.9

Self-introduction as a student can mention where the college is and what
majors are taken.
Good morning, I would like to introduce myself. My name is Bianca and I'm
from Makassar. I'm a college student at XXX University, majoring in Biology.
Since high school, I've always loved biology and anything about the
ecosystem. So here I am, studying biological science.
Usually, I spend my time doing research about fungi, and various kinds of
plants. My dream is to be a scientist. Nice to meet you!
