“ANG HULING EL BIMBO”

The director of "Ang Huling El Bimbo the Musical" brought back a lot of memories of our
youth and also how childhood changed our ideologies and expectations as life goes to direct and
redirect us.

Hector, Anthony, Emman and Joy are just typical teenagers. Those who represent all of us
during our adolescence.  Their achievements in life, difficulties, and disappointments are typical of
adolescent life. Imagine how excited we were for all the new things in our lives. The simplest things
bring us happiness. Hector is the one who symbolizes Luzon; he wants to prove himself and
continue pursuing his ambition in order to reach his goals. Emman, who represents Visayas, is a
man from the province with a strong provincial accent. Anthony represents the third gender on our
society, Mindanao, he is the one who is having a problem of coming out and reveal his true self.
Freedom, to be understood and also accepted their culture and beliefs. Joy is the one who
represents our Inang Bayan (Mother Land), and she is always optimistic about the future. The
Proscenium stage or Frame stage is a type of stage that they used; the actors are framed in a
picture, and the audience is facing one direction on this type of stage.

Overall, the performance was amazing. It narrates the story of a friendship as it goes
through ups and downs. It also covers topics that are often overlooked these days and shed light
on the mass media. It brought back a lot of memories. I keep hoping to see more Filipino-made
musicals like this in the coming years. I'm so glad to watch this masterpiece, and I'm glad it's
getting the attention it deserves.
