1. Perfect Aspect of a verb

- Describes finished action

Three tenses of the Perfect aspect of a verb.

1. Present Perfect- Describes an event that has been already completed in the
present.
Could also be used to describe events that occurred at an unspecified time
in the past.
Structure: Has/Have + Past Participle

For singular subject ------------Has


Example: Samuel has eaten beefsteak for lunch.

For plural subject----------------Have


Example: Samuel and Anna have eaten beefsteak for lunch.

2. Past Perfect -Describes an event that occurred before a specific time in


the past.
Structure: Had + Past Participle
Example: Jaya had played soccer before she went to bed.

3. Future Perfect- Describes an action that will be completed at a specific


time in the future.

Structure: Will have + Past Participle


Example: I will have studied engineering at the nearest university when I
turn 20.
Example: I will have finished eating later at 1:00.

ACTIVITY 1

The students must be able to identify if the sentence is in its Past Perfect Tense, Present
Perfect Tense, or Future Perfect Tense.

1. She will have finished her homework at 10:00. ___________Ans: Future Perfect
2. We have made a banana cake for my grandma. ___________Ans: Present Perfect
3. Tina had eaten her favorite fruit. ______________Ans: Present Perfect
LESSON TOPIC: PROGRESSIVE ASPECT OF THE VERB

Progressive Aspect of the verb

- Indicates unfinished actions

Progressive Tenses:

Present Progressive – describes an activity that is currently in progress.

Structure: is/are + progressive form of the verb

Examples: Father is fixing the wall.

The students are doing their best to get good grades.

Past Progressive - describes an ongoing action in the past.

Structure: was/were + progressive form of the verb

Examples: I was watching TV when mom came home.

The dogs were barking when we were about to sleep.

Future Progressive- describes an ongoing action in the future.

Structure: will be + progressive form of the verb.

Examples: They will be celebrating her birthday tomorrow.

She will be traveling to her hometown next week.
