Proposed Thesis Title: “PERCEPTION OF USING ONLINE MODALITY IN THE

LEARNING OF THIRD YEAR CRIMINOLOGY STUDENTS OF USST S.Y. 2022-2023

Background of the study

Online education has definitely made its way into higher education, with new programs

being added on a regular basis. The blended synchronous learning mode (a "blend" of online and

traditional approaches) is also growing rapidly in higher education, though its effects on student

and instructor experiences have yet to be fully investigated. With the rapid expansion of the

transnational education market, an increasing number of universities are joining the ranks of

transnational education providers or expanding their transnational education offerings, such as

distance learning or blended learning, including in  the Philippines such as University of the

Philippines Open University. Online learning has traditionally been perceived as less interactive

than face-to-face learning. It is primarily due to a lack of social presence, social interaction, and

student satisfaction. Online learning, on the other hand, has been promoted as being more cost

effective and convenient than traditional educational environments, as well as providing

opportunities for more learners to further their education.

Novel Coronavirus, also known as COVID-19, has caused significant disruption in all

aspects of human life, including education. The virus's alarming spread wreaked havoc on the

educational system, forcing educational institutions to close. According to a UNESCO report, the
temporary closure of educational institutions has had a significant impact on 1.6 billion children

in 191 countries. To lessen the impact of the closure, educational institutions have responded

differently in different contexts, offering a variety of options for students, teachers, managers,

and parents, depending on the resources, both material and human, available to them. To provide

at least some form of educational continuity, most options must incorporate innovative

technologies (e.g., digital and mobile technologies combined with traditional technologies such

as radio and television). Because distance and online education rely on technological facilities

such as internet and Wi-Fi, disparities in their availability widen access and educational quality

gaps.

The magnitude of information technology's impact on various aspects of our lives today

cannot be denied, nor can its growing popularity and use in the education sector. This role in

the academic arena has grown in importance in light of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, which

has forced all educational institutions around the world to close, posing numerous challenges at

all stages and levels of education, particularly for students. The flourishing innovative

technologies and learning management systems for both teaching and assessment have made

strides, providing a usable solution for educators and allowing policymakers to implement the

use of information technology during quarantine days for covering course work. Stakeholders

involved, including institutional administrators, teachers, and students, are making significant

efforts to maximize the use of available technology for continuing the educational process and

minimizing the gaps that will result as a result of the current circumstances.

Several studies have been conducted to determine the significance and efficacy of e-

learning implementation. Many universities around the world are promoting it as a teaching

method, and students seem to like it. There are numerous reasons for its overall acceptability; a
few of which are particularly relevant in the case of learners are its ease of use, flexibility, and

improved control over the environment. Despite its numerous benefits, e-learning has a number

of drawbacks, including social isolation, a lack of student-teacher interaction, and connectivity

issues, among others.

Scope of the study

The purpose of this study is to assess the "Perception of Using Online Modality in

Learning" of third-year students at United School of Science and Technology S.Y 2022-2023.

The subjects of the investigation in this study are only third-year students at United School of

Science and Technology. Respondents will be given the same set of online survey questionnaires

created with Google forms. It is limited to the study's objective because the researcher only

wanted to determine the Perception of Using Online Modality in Learning of United School of

Science and Technology's third-year students. The success of this study is dependent on the

responses of the respondents. The research will be carried out during the school year 2022-

2023.The framework of this study does not cover any changes or progress in details and updated

information beyond the said point.

Statement of the Problem

This study aims to determine the “Perception of Using Online Modality in the Learning” of

the third-year students of United School of Science and Technology. This study aims to answer

the following questions:

1. How may Online Learning Modality (OLM) be described?

a. Platform

b. Monitoring of Learning
2. How does learning process using Online Learning Modality (OLM) perceived by the

third-year students in terms of:

a. Online classes participation

b. Submission of requirements

c. Mastery of subject-related concepts

PROPOSED METHODOLOGY

Research Design and Methodology

The researcher preferred from the different methods of research, both quantitative and

qualitative method. This method is the only method of research that can truly test the hypotheses

concerning PERCEPTION OF USING ONLINE MODALITY IN THE LEARNING OF

THIRD YEAR STUDNETS OF BS CRIMINOLY STUDENT OF USST. It represents the

most valid approach to the solution of educational problems, both practical and theoretical, and

to the advancement of education as a science. This is the best method indeed the only fully

compelling method of establishing causation is to conduct a carefully designed online research in

which the effects of possible persuading variables are controlled.

Locale and Population

The study will be conducted online at United School of Science and Technology, P.

Burgos St, Tarlac City, Tarlac, School Year, 2022-2023.

Data Gathering Method

The researcher conducted this study during school year 2022-2023 with decreasing rate

of COVID-19 pandemic and educational institutions shifted to online learning/hybrid learning.

The researchers used aa online structured survey questionnaire developed through Google Forms

with an appended consent form to determine the level of PERCEPTION OF USING ONLINE

MODALITY IN THE LEARNING OF THIRD YEAR STUDNETS OF BS CRIMINOLY

STUDENT OF USST.

Data Gathering Procedure

The researcher followed proper protocol in the conduct of the study. A written permission

and communication letter was initially secured from the school (HEAD EME EME KAYO NA

MAG DECIDE DITO SA PART NA TO) and the principal. After the approval, a copy of the

survey questionnaire was sent through email to the research adviser for review and approval

before administering the online questionnaires. The online questionnaires with appended consent

form were discussed to the respondents through email or social media chats to secure honest

answers. The survey link was sent to the student respondents via social media. PAKI EDIT SA

Treatment of Data

To analyze and interpret the data, the researcher employed the following statistical procedure:

1. Frequency, percentage and ranking

Will help the researcher to easily tally the data that they gathered. This percentage and ranking
will a big help in the researchers to analysis the date.

2. Frequency, weighted mean and ranking.

Weighted Mean. This tool was used to provide answer to the questions. The formula is:

Where:
WM = weighted mean

X = number of respondents

F = weight given to each respondent

N = number of cases

Data Analysis Plan

Using the data garnered, data analysis plan would encompass a number of procedures leading to

the findings or the result of the study, the procedures to be observed are as follow:

1. Summarizing the numerical data. This would be done through a tally that will be based on the

certain answer of the respondent in the survey questionnaires using frequency and percentage.

2. Mathematical/Statistical Interpretation of the summarized data using the weighted men and

ranking.

3. Verbal Interpretation of the produced outcome will be determining the hypothesis of our topic.

Is there significant effect in the PERCEPTION OF USING ONLINE MODALITY IN THE

LEARNING OF THIRD YEAR STUDNETS OF BS CRIMINOLY STUDENT OF USST.
