“Online Classes of SY 2020-2021: A Descriptive Research about Student Experiences in the
Online Platform”

Purpose
The CoVid-19 pandemic has hit the world hard. With many establishments and
institutions closing and halting their operations in fear of spreading the infection and
endangering the lives of many, the world has been put on pause. Sadly, this pause has also
affected educational institutions as well, with schools closing their gates to students and faculty
alike to keep everyone safe. After many months of this dreadful case, however, schools have
now come up with a possible, hopefully temporary, solution to the predicament of both students
and teachers: Online Classes. But how effective are online classes? How efficient are they as a
mode of learning? What are its effects upon the students? This is the purpose of this study, in
order to answer these questions as well as allow the voices of students participating in these
online classes to be heard. Another purpose of this study, is to possibly serve as a foundation of
future studies regarding the matter and serve as a basis for authorities to improve on the idea of
Online Classes or find alternatives to this type of learning platform.

Questions to be Asked/ Want to be Answered

This Research aims to answer the following questions: 1.) The effectiveness of Online
Classes as a Learning Platform 2.) The Effects of Online Classes to Students who are
undertaking them 3.) Whether Modular or Online Learning is a better learning platform 4.) How
students in far-flung areas cope up with the requirements of online classes 5.) The satisfaction
rating of student engaging in Online Classes.

Scope and Delimitations

This research covers the experiences of students in an Online Classroom setting: how the
setting affects their mental health, their willingness to study and participate, as well as their
overall performance in the online classroom, it also aims to find out what students with poor
internet connectivity do in order to participate in the online class sessions. This research
ultimately aims to find out whether or not Online Classes are an effective way of learning in this
time of crises and strife.

This research, however, will not cover the students’ motivations as to why they engage in
Online Classes. It will also not dell on possible solutions or alternatives to the online platform of
learning. In addition to this, it will also not be covering and dwelling on presenting the
alternatives which students with poor internet connectivity can do in order to participate in
Online Classroom sessions. Being a Quantitative Research, our aim is only to quantify the
problem and present these as statistics for future studies to use and deploy, the limitations of
these research are mostly due to the nature of the research itself, the type of research which we
will use will not effectively cover the subtopics which are out of our reach.

Respondents
The respondents of this research will be students of Catanduanes State University
Laboratory Schools who are participating in Online Class Sessions in SY 2020-2021. The
researchers may include Junior High School Students as respondents or focus solely on the
experiences of Senior High School students.

Methods
Primary research methods to be employed by the researchers will be surveys done either
through Messenger through Private Messaging, or through Google Survey. Another data-
gathering method which the researchers will employ could be through secondary means,
meaning that the researchers will refer to studies and articles which have already been published
in order to gather information, however, information gathered from these sources are contextual
and will not affect the results of the research will not drastically affect the outcome of the results
of the research itself, as the researchers will still rely on the primary data collected in order to get
objective and localized and familiar results.
