ACADEMIC STRESS: ITS INFLUENCE TO THE MENTAL WELL-BEING

SYNTHESIS OF THE REVIEWED STUDIES

The reviewed related literature and studies proved to be useful to the present

study and can be synthesized, as follows:

The fact that a sizeable percentage of college students in the Philippines are at

risk of developing mood and anxiety disorders may in part be attributable to the

pressures and expectations placed on them by their schools. For instance, nurse

educators will have a harder time finding ways to keep Filipino nursing students

motivated and stress-free. This implies that either prolonged or low-level stress

exposure contributes the same result of exposing harm on student individuals.

Academic stress could also cause emotional stress on students, implying that the

most significant cause of perceived stress for students is due to emotional factors, in

which stress and related problems stem from feelings that are denied, misunderstood,

or disregarded, and when these feelings are not acknowledged or dealt with in a healthy

manner, they can lead to physical and mental health problems.

Emotional or behavioral stressors, both of which can negatively affect our mental

health, constitute one type of determined stress, wherein there has been an increase in

academic pressure over the past few years, and one of the primary causes of student

stress is a lack of support; students who do not communicate with their parents or

teachers may develop doubts and misunderstandings that lead to stress.
