DIGITAL DIVIDE

1. Being a student right now, what contribution can you give to address the digital divide in
our society?
As a student, I don't have the connections and power compared to the
professionals who have played the field long enough. I can merely do things that
affect me or the small group of people that surrounds me. One thing I can do to
address the digital divide in our society is to advocate for them. I may be just a
student, but, I am also a student leader. I also actively participate in different
contests when given the chance and I can use these platforms to advocate this to a
larger group. Now, not only do I influence a small portion of the community, but I
now have a voice that can be spoken and a message that has spread through the
people who support and hear my advocacy.

2. In your own opinion, what does the government need to do to mitigate the problem of the
digital divide?
In my opinion, the government does not focus on this as much as it should. They
have been prioritizing other things and are too blinded by what the people truly
need. They fail to recognize that solving the problem of the digital divide can
singlehandedly solve other problems that they have been scheming about for
years. By merely making technology and the aspects attributed to it more
affordable and accessible, they are giving people a better chance at life. They
would be providing more opportunities and more bridges to cross; better quality
education and better systems can come forth with mitigating the problem of the
digital divide.

3. In your own family, what can you provide to them to alleviate problems on the digital
divide?
In my family, I can provide assistance to help to alleviate problems on the digital
divide. Given that my family consists of multiple generations, there has been a
noticeable gap between the knowledge we know as Gen Z and the knowledge our
parents and grandparents know. When they are faced with technological
problems, I will be the one to help and teach them what to do. I aim to repeat this
cycle until the digital divide or gap has been lessened in our family. I can also
spare time to teach them the new tricks and hack I learned to help them catch up
and adapt to the ever-changing world.
