Ext. THE RUINS. EARLY AFTERNOON

Taylor Swift’s Love story starts. The camera begins by

pointing at the sky, then downwards. Credits begin and
then the camera captures a hand holding a paint brush,
flicking a streak of blue paint onto a blank canvas. The
camera then expands and zooms in on a group of Five
friends, Dajj smiling at her painting. Rayle can be seen
reading from a book, her expression agreeing.

ENTER
HANA, RAYLE, DAJJ & ZYTO

Hana:
What a gorgeous day it is here in Verona.
Hana said as she looks from left to right, admiring the
beauty of ruins. The sky is beautiful. Birds can be heard
from left to right.
Dajj:
Hmmm I couldn’t agree more.

2
Zyto:
What more could you need from life? The breeze is so
refreshing, the trees are swaying, the birds are
chirping, and everyone is at ease.
Hana:
Hey Rayle Heart, what are you reading?
Rayle:
Oh this? Some book that I’ve borrowed from the library
Hana:
What is it about?
Rayle:
Well, it’s about the history of Verona, I was really
intrigued about the cover so I got it.
Hana:
You must not be familiar with Romeo and Juliet, then.
Dajj:
Who’s Romeo and who’s Juliet?
Hana:
Well then, You must all take a seat and pay close
attention as I tell you the tale of Romeo and Juliet.

The camera pans out and then it transitions into a blue

sky, the camera then pans down and a pair of black boots
is on film.

EXT. THE RUINS. LATE AFTERNOON.

CUT TO:
Hana: (V.O)
In the beautiful city of Verona, where our story takes
place, a long-standing hatred between two families erupts
into new violence, and citizen stain their hands with the
blood of their fellow citizens. Two unlucky children of
these enemy families become lovers and commit suicide.
Their unfortunate deaths put an end to their family’s
feud. For the next few moments, we will watch the story
of their doomed love and their parents’ anger, which
nothing but the children’s deaths could stop.

Sampson and Gregory, the servants of the Capulet family,

enter carrying swords and shields. They seem to be
talking about something.
Sampson:
Gregory, I swear, we cannot let them humiliate us. We
won’t take their garbage.

3
Gregory (Teasing):
No, because then we’d be garbage men.

Sampson:
What I mean is, if they make us angry then we’ll pull out
our swords

Gregory:
Maybe you should focus on pulling yourself out of
trouble, Sampson.

Sampson:
Don’t doubt me, I hit hard when I am angry.

Gregory:
But it is hard to make you angry.

Sampson:
One of those dogs from the Montague house can make me
angry.

Sampson:
A dog from that house will make me angry enough to take a
stand. If I pass one of them on the street, I’ll take the
side closer to the wall and let him walk in the gutter.

Camera captures a duo of Montague servants walking behind

them.
Abraham and another servant of the Montagues enter.

Gregory turns to Sampson and Gregory gives out a

determined expression.
Sampson:
Let’s not break the law by starting a fight. Let them
start something.
Gregory:
I could frown at them as they pass by, they can react
however they want.

Sampson:
Or maybe you could..

Hana (V.O) Sampson bites his thumb. Abraham and the other
Montagues take notice of this and they react violently.

Sampson:
Pull out your swords, if you are men. Gregory remember
how to slash

4
The Montague and the Capulet servants begin to fight with
their swords. Action Scene by FJHMusic plays.
Benvolio, Romeo’s cousin enters

Benvolio:
Break it up, you fools! Put your swords away. You don’t
know what you’re doing.
Tybalt:
Turn around, Benvolio, and look at the man who’s going to
kill you.
Tybalt & Benvolio fight.
After a minute of fighting, The Prince enters the scene.

The Prince:
You men, you beasts, who satisfy your anger with
fountains of each other’s blood. I’ll have you tortured
if you don’t put your swords down and listen to your
angry prince.

The prince tries to break up the fight and fails. He

orders everyone to leave but for the heads of the houses.

The prince and the heads of the houses have a

conversation but it is muted because of the audio.

The scene then cuts to Lady Capulet and Benvolio talking

about Romeo. The soundtrack transitions to Playground
Love by Air.

Lady Montague:
Where is Romeo? Have you seen him today? I’m glad he was
not involved in this fight.

Benvolio: (V.O) The camera pans in and out of Romeo

sitting by the beach looking solemn.

Madam, I am afraid he isn’t well. He spends a lot of time

sitting alone and shedding tears. He spends a lot of time
alone in his room. I believe he spends every second of
the day crying. I yearn to figure out the root of his
sadness.

EXT. SEAWALL. EARLY EVENING.

Romeo is then accompanied by Benvolio, who sits beside
him and offers a hand behind his back. Romeo stares at
the sea, unfazed.
Romeo:
I love someone and she does not love me.

5
Benvolio:
It’s sad. Love looks like a nice thing, but it’s actually
a very rough when you experience it.

CUT TO:
EXT. BEACH. EARLY EVENING
Rosaline’s montage. She is seen to sit at the beach and
then turns to look at the camera.

INT.RUINS.LATE AFTERNOON
Rosaline runs barefoot along the building and she giggles
and smiles. She seems to be playing a game of hide and
seek with the camera man. She holds a piece of a white
flower then tears a few petals off. She ends with her
waving at the camera.

Romeo(V.O):
Yes this is what love does. Here’s what love is; a smoke
made out of lovers’ sigh. When the smoke clears, love is
a fire burning in your lover’s tears. What else is love?
It is a form of madness. It’s a sweet lozenge that you
choke on

CUT TO:
Paris talking to Juliet’s parents.
Hana (V.O):
Paris talks to Juliet’s parents about marrying Juliet.
Juliet’s parents respond that Paris should wait for a few
years because Juliet is still thirteen. The head of the
capulet family then invite Paris to their feast.

CUT TO:
Capulet servants offering invites to the townspeople.
Romeo and Benvolio are together, walking around when the
servants approach them.

Capulet servant #1:

Pardon me, Good sir. Can you assist me in reading this
letter?

The camera focuses on the letter. In it is written

“Rosaline”

6
Romeo & Benvolio look at each other with surprise.

Benvolio:
The beautiful Rosaline whom you love so much will be at
Capulet’s traditional feast, along with every beautiful
woman in Verona. Go there and compare her to some other
girls I’ll show you. The woman who you think is as
beautiful as a swan is going to look as ugly as a crow to
you.

Romeo:
I’ll go with you. Not because I think you’ll show me
anything better, but so I can see the woman who I love.

CUT TO:
INT. THE RUINS. MORNING.
The camera then pans in on The Nurse, Juliet and Lady
Capulet having a conversation while Lady Capulet brushes
her daughter’s hair.

Lady Capulet: (TALKING ABOUT PARIS) Summertime in Verona

has no flower as fine as him. Do you think that you can
accept Paris’ love?

The nurse: He is a fine flower. Truly a fine flower.

Lady Capulet: If you marry him, you would lose nothing.

In fact, you’d get all of his possessions.

The Nurse:
Lose nothing? In fact, you’d get bigger. Men make women
bigger by getting them pregnant.

Lady Capulet rolls her eyes

Lady Capulet: Give us a quick answer. Can you accept his

love?

Juliet:
I’ll take a look at him this evening. I’ll see if I can
love him.

CUT TO:
INT. DANAO. AFTERNOON.
Romeo, Benvolio and Mercutio enter the ball. All of them
wear masks.

Romeo looks around for Rosaline and then he sees Juliet.

Juliet spots Romeo. They spend a moment, just completely

7
enamored with each other. Their eyes locked on each
other. They walk until Romeo accidentally bumps into
Tybalt. Tybalt grunts and immediately comes to tell the
heads of the Montague house.

CUT TO:
INT. DANAO. EVENING
Tybalt: Sir, Among these roses lay a thorn. There is a
Montague among us! Do you want me to prickle them alive
with thorns? To boil them to a pulp?

Montague:
Do not do such a thing. It is our feast! No blood must be
shed. Let them be.

CUT TO:
INT. PRIVATE SPACE. EVENING
Romeo & Juliet in a private place. Completely in love
with each other.
Romeo:
Your hand is like a holy place that my hand is unworthy
to visit. If you are offended by the touch of my hand, my
two lips are standing here like blushing pilgrims, ready
to make things better with a kiss.

Juliet:
By holding my hand you show polite devotion. After all,
pilgrims touch the hand of statues of saints. Holding one
palm against another is like a kiss.

Romeo:
Don’t saints and pilgrims have lips too?

Juliet:
Yes, they have lips that they’re supposed to pray with.

Romeo:
Well then, saint, let lips do what hands do. I’m praying
for you to kiss me. Please grant my prayer.

Juliet:
Saints do not move, even when they grant prayers.
Romeo:
Then don’t move while I act out my prayer.

They kiss.

Cut to: Back to the groups of friends

EXT. THE RUINS. AFTERNOON.

8
Zyto: What happened next? This story is so romantic
Rayle: They attempt to find each other’s identities and
it lead to them finding out about each other’s identities
and both of them decided they are too in love to go back.
After the party Romeo ditches his friends and decides to
climb over an orchard wall to see Juliet
He sees her at her balcony talking to her self. Before
she realizes Romeo was listening to her, she admits she’s
in love with him.
He stopped hiding and says he loves her too.

Cut to:
INT. RUINS. AFTERNOON.
Romeo:
Good morning, Father.

Friar Lawrence:
God bless you. Who greets me so early in the morning?
Young man, something’s wrong if you’re getting out of bed
this early.

Romeo:
Wrong. I enjoyed a sweeter rest than sleep.

Friar Lawrence: (Baffled)

Where have you been?

Romeo:
I have feasted with my enemy. They’ve wounded me with
love and you have the sacred power to cure both of us.

Cut to:
EXT. THE RUINS. AFTERNOON.
Rayle: Romeo asked Father Lawrence to marry him and
Juliet
Father Lawrence was concerned how quickly Romeo changed
his feelings from Rosaline to Juliet, but agrees because
he thinks it will bring peace to the feuding family.

Cut to:
EXT. THE RUINS. LATE AFTERNOON.
Benvolio:
Tybalt, old Capulet’s nephew has sent a letter to Romeo’s
Father’s house.

Mercutio:
I bet it’s a challenge.

Benvolio:
And Romeo will answer that challenge.

9
Hana (V.O):
Benvolio and Mercutio talk to Romeo about the letter when
all of a sudden, the Nurse enters the room and has a
conversation with Romeo. They talk about his and Juliet’s
relationship. Romeo tells the Nurse to tell Juliet to
come with him to Friar Lawrence’s so that they could get
married.

INT. THE RUINS. LATE AFTERNOON.

The Nurse has a brief conversation with Juliet when she
returns home and then the wedding happens.

EXT. DANAO BEACH. EARLY EVENING.

The camera pans in Romeo & Juliet as they are wed by
Friar Lawrence. The background music is Everything by
Black Skirts, The beach can be seen from behind.

Friar Lawrence:
May the heavens be happy with this act of marriage, so
nothing unfortunate happens later to make us regret it

CUT TO:
EXT. DANAO. EVENING.
Mercutio, Benvolio and The Montagues enter.

Benvolio:
If I were in the habit of fighting as you are then my
health insurance would be sky-high.
Mercutio:
Your life insurance? That’s foolish. And stupid.

Tybalt. Petruchio and the Capulets enter.

Tybalt:
Good afternoon, gentlemen. I’d like to have a word with
one of you.

Mercutio & Benvolio look at each other then turn to

Tybalt.

Tybalt:
Mercutio, you hang out with Romeo.

Mercutio: “Hang out”? Who do you think we are? Musicians

in a band? If we do, then I can give you something to
dance about.

Rayle (V.O): Romeo enters and then argument breaks up

into a fight. Romeo refuses to fight Tybalt because he is
Juliet’s cousin.

Mercutio:

10
Hurry up, or I’ll smack you on the ears with my sword
before you have your sword out.

Tybalt:
I’ll fight you.

Romeo:
Noble Mercutio, put your sword away.

Mercutio:
Come on sir, perform your forward thrust, your passado.

Mercutio and Tybalt fight.

Romeo tries to break up the fight. Tybalt reaches under

Romeo’s arm and stabs Mercutio.

Mercutio:
I AM HURT! MAY A PLAUGE CURSE BOTH OF YOUR FAMILIES!
PLAUGE TO BOTH OF YOUR HOUSES!

Mercutio:
Take me inside some house, Benvolio, or I’ll pass out.
They’ve turned me into food for worms. I’m done for.
Curse your families!

Mercutio & Benvolio exit with Benvolio helping Mercutio

walk away.

Romeo stares and gulps.

The camera cuts to black.

Benvolio: Oh Romeo, Romeo, Brave Mercutio is dead!

Romeo screams.

Camera flashes onto Tybalt.

Romeo: He is alive and victorious, and Mercutio is dead?

Enough with mercy and consideration. It is time for rage
to guide my actions.

CUT TO:
EXT. THE RUINS. LATE AFTERNOON

Hana: The both of them fight and Romeo flees. After a

moment, the Prince enters and Mercutio tells him about
the situation. The Prince gets furious and then sentences
Romeo to be exiled from Verona.

11
Juliet is patiently waiting for Romeo in her room, but
then the nurse came in and tells Juliet that Romeo killed
Tybalt and has been banished from Verona.

CUT TO:
INT. JULIET’S ROOM.LATE AFTERNOON

Juliet:
Oh my, what’s the news? Why do you look so upset?

Nurse:
Oh, It’s a sad day! It is a sad, terrible day! He’s dead.
He’s dead. He’s dead. He is dead! We’re ruined, lady!

Juliet:
Can God be so Jealous and hateful?

Nurse:
Romeo is hateful, even though God is not. Oh, Romeo,
Romeo, whoever would have thought it would be Romeo?

Juliet:
What kind of devil are you to torture me like this? If
he’s been killed, say “Yes” If not, say :No”. These words
will determine my joy or pain.

Nurse:
I saw the wound on his bloody corpse! Oh, my! Oh, my!

Juliet gets shocked at the thought that her lover has

fallen to the pitfalls of life, but then the Nurse says..

Nurse: Oh, Tybalt, Tybalt, he was the best friend I had.

Tybalt is dead and Romeo has been banished.

Juliet: Oh God, did Romeo shed Tybalt’s blood?

Nurse: He did

Juliet: He is like a snake in the shape of the flower and

even though I acknowledge that fact; I still find myself
loving him. My family will cry for Tybalt but I will cry
for Romeo. He is a beautiful tyrant and a fiendish angel!

Juliet weeps for her lover.

Juliet: Tell my forsaken lover to meet me tonight. Find

him and give him this ring. If he does not spend his last
night here with me, then I too will be forsaken.

CUT TO:

12
INT. RUINS. EVENING.
Friar Lawrence enters the room with Rome. He carries a
sorrowful expression.
Friar Lawrence:
I have news for you about the Prince’s punishment.

Romeo:
Is the Prince’s punishment any less awful than doomsfall?

Friar Lawrence:
He made a gentle decision. You won’t die, but you’ll be
exiled from Verona. From now on, you are banished from
Verona. You should be able to endure this because the
world is broad and wide.

Romeo:
There is no world for me outside of Verona. As my world
is in Verona. Banishment is another name for Death and to
Death, I will come to.

Romeo sits on the floor and stares at the wood while

weeping.

The nurse enters the room.

The Nurse:
Juliet asks for your presence, Romeo. Take this ring and
go into the night. Into her arms!

Friar Lawrence:
Now get out of here, Good night! We’ll have a talk with
the Prince in lessening your sentence. Have a little
vacation in Montua and wait for a friar to send you a
letter.

Romeo:
I am off to experience an inexplicable joy. It is sad to
leave in such a rush but for now, it is goodbye!

CUT TO:
INT. CAPULET HOUSE. EVENING.
Capulet:
I will make sure to tell my daughter to think about your
proposal thoroughly. Maybe a marriage can help in a time
like this. As she is shut in her room, weeping for her
lost cousin. I think she’ll do whatever I say.

Lady Capulet:
We will talk to her and tell her that she will be married
to you on Thursday.

13
Paris:
My Lord, I wish Thursday were tomorrow.

Capulet:
Well, go on home. Thursday it is.

Paris leaves.

Capulet:
Go visit Juliet and tell her to prepare for the wedding.

Lady Capulet nods.

Cut to:
EXT. DANAO. NIGHT.
Hana (V.O.): And as the day turn to night, Romeo came
into Juliet’s room and spent the night with her.
Professing their loyalty & fondness of each other.
Afternoon Sister by Air plays.

CUT TO:
INT. DANAO. MORNING.
The Nurse barges in on Juliet’s room, awakening her from
her slumber.

The Nurse:
Madam?

Juliet:
Nurse?

Nurse:
Your mother is coming to your bedroom. Day has broken. Be
careful & watch out.

Romeo nudges and awakens

Romeo:
Farewell, farewell! This will not be the last time we’ll
meet.

The Nurse leaves and Romeo leaves and then Lady Capulet
enters.

Lady Capulet:
Hey, daughter! Are you awake?

Juliet: (sniffles)
Mother, I am no well.

14
Hana (V.O):
The conversation grew into an argument that ended with
Capulet threatening to disown Juliet. Their final
decision was to continue the wedding with or without
Juliet’s consent. In the midst of the day, Juliet came to
Friar Lawrence’s aid.

Hana (V.O):
Juliet goes to Friar Lawrence and tells him that she’ll
kill herself if he can’t show her a way of her
predicament. He gives her a vile with a drug in it, and
tells her to agree to the marriage and take the vile the
night before the marriage. For 42 hours she’ll seem that
she’s dead and the family will lay her on the family
tomb.

Camera is focused on Juliet and Friar Lawrence.

Friar Lawrence:
Hold on, daughter. I see some hope. But we must act
boldly because the situation is so desperate. You can
wrestle with death to escape shame. And if you dare do
it, I’ll give a solution.

Juliet:
You can tell me to walk through thorns and I would do it.
For Romeo. For us.

Friar Lawrence:
Hold on, go home and tell your parents that you agree to
marry Paris. Tomorrow is Wednesday, there is still a lot
of time. Tomorrow night make sure that you are alone.
When you are in bed, take this vial. Then a cold, sleep-
inducing drug will enter your veins and your pulse will
stop. It will seem like you’re dead and your body will be
stiff as a corpse. You’ll remain in this state for 42
hours. After 42 hours, you will as if from a pleasant
sleep. Enough time for one of the other Friars to send
Romeo a message about our plan. When the Capulets see
you, they will think that you are dead and hold a funeral
instead.

Juliet:
Give me the vial! I show no fear and hesitation: In the
name of love. In the name of Romeo.

Friar Lawrence gives her the vial and then they exit.

Hana (V.O):

15
The Capulets were happy that Juliet finally decided to
agree. So happy in fact that they decided to move the
wedding the very next day.

INT. DANAO. NIGHT.

Juliet:
Good-bye. Only God knows when we will meet again. Romeo,
here is a drink for you!

Juliet drinks from the vial and falls on her bed.

INT. DANAO. EARLY MORNING.

The Nurse:
Juliet, Miss, Hey, love, Lazybones, wake up! You’re going
to get married today!

The nurse nudges Juliet and then her face is horrified

because Juliet felt cold.
The Nurse:
She’s dead! deceased, she’s dead, she’s dead!

Hana (V.O):
Lady Capulet heard all of the commotion and enters
inside.

Lady Capulet hugs her daughter and screams in pain and

tears.

Lady Capulet:
Oh my Oh, my! My child, my reason for living! Wake up or
I’ll die with you!

coming soon. I trust in faith and virtue.

Romeo’s servant, Balthasar enters.

Romeo:
Do you have news from Verona? What is it, Balthasar? Do
you bring a letter from my lover?

Balthasar:
Juliet has died. Her body sleeps in the Capulet tomb, her
soul with the angels in heaven. I saw her getting buried
at the funeral and then I came to tell you the news.

Romeo:
Is that true? Then I defy the stars. Get me my horse and
I will leave for Verona tonight. Get away and hire the
horses, I will be with you.

Balthasar leaves.

Romeo:
Well, My lovely beautiful Juliet, I will be laying with
you tonight.

CUT TO: GROUP OF FRIENDS

Hana: And then Romeo went to purchase poison for him to

consume.

CUT TO: ROMEO & THE APOTHECARY.

EXT. RUINS. LATE AFTERNOON.

Apothecary:
Who is that who calls?

Romeo:
I know that you are poor. Here are all of my valuable
belongings, sell me your best poison.

Apothecary:
I have poison like that but it is against the law to sell
poison.

17
Romeo:
You are poor and yet you still fear to die? I want to
purchase from you because you want me to purchase this.

Apothecary thinks for a second then gives him a vial.

Apothecary:
Put this in any kind of liquid you want and drink it
down. One drop can kill 20 men.

Romeo gives Apothecary his valuables and frowns.

Romeo:
I will do everything I can to be with you, Juliet.

CUT TO: THE RUINS

INT. THE RUINS. AFTERNOON.
Friar John comes inside Friar Lawrence’s home, out of
breath.

Friar Lawrence:
Welcome back from Mantua! What does Romeo say?

Friar John:
I couldn’t send the letter because we were held back by
health officials because they suspected us of carrying
the plague. They forced us into quarantine. Here it is.

Friar Lawrence:
Oh, How luck! The letter was not just any greeting. It
was important information! Now, I must go to the tomb
alone. Within Three hours, Juliet will wake up and she
will be very angry that Romeo does not know. That poor
living corpse!

CUT TO: GROUP OF FRIENDS

EXT. RUINS.AFTERNOON

Zyto:
This story is so interesting. What happens after?

Hana:
Well, after Romeo is struck by an intense grief he
decides to go visit Juliet one more time. Carrying the
vial the Apothecary gave him.

CUT TO: ROMEO

EXT. RUINS. EVENING

18

the vial.

Romeo:
Swear to your life that you will not interrupt me. Go on
and give my father the things I gave you and take all my
valuables in order for you to live a happy prosperous
life. Farewell, Good fellow.

Balthasar:
I’ll go sir and I won’t disturb you.

CUT TO:
INT. TOMB. EVENING.
Paris sees Romeo enter the tomb and then he looks at his
page.

Paris:
It’s the Montague who’s been banished. He’s the one who
murdered my love’s cousin. They think she died from
grief..

Paris draws his sword and comes to Romeo

Paris:
Stop your evil work, you vile Montague! Can you take
revenge on dead bodies? I’ve caught you! You must die.

Romeo:
I must indeed. That is why I’ve come here. Get away from
here and leave me.

Paris;
I refuse your request. I’m arresting you as a criminal

not ruined your beauty. Ah, dear Juliet, why are you

19
still so beautiful? Should I believe that Death is
enamored with you? I’ll stay with you and I will never
leave this tomb. Here’s to my love!

Romeo drinks the vial and dies.

CUT TO: FRIAR LAWRENCE

EXT. TOMB. LATE EVENING

You can still run away and become a nun in my church.
There are ways. Come, let’s go, Juliet. There are noises
outside! I do not wish to stay any longer.

Juliet:
Go get out because I am not going anywhere.

Friar Lawrence exits.

Romeo + Juliet OST 22 Death Scene continues

Juliet:
What’s this here? A cup in my true love’s hand. Poison, I
see, he has drunk it all. Maybe i kissed his lips then I
can die too.

Juliet kisses him

Juliet:
I refuse to live when my sun has perished.

Ruffles can be heard from outside.

Juliet:
Noises? Then I’ll be quick.

She looks around and sees Romeo’s knife.

Juliet:
My body will be your sheath. Rust inside my body and let
me die.

Juliet stabs herself.

The screen transitions to black. The Capulets and

Montagues screams and cries can be heard.

20
The black screen then transitions to the Montagues and
Capulets in mourning.

Montague:
I will raise Juliet’s statue in pure gold. This feud took
our children so we must end it now. Their love is like a
pond in a dreary forest. We’ve ruined them.

Capulet:
And I will make a statue of Romeo to lie beside his
Juliet. They were indeed poor sacrifices of our rivalry!

CUT TO: GROUP OF FRIENDS

EXT. THE RUINS. EARLY EVENING.
Hana:
Thus, marks the end of Romeo & Juliet.

Dajj:
I yearn for a love like theirs.

Zyto:
That was such a wonderful, jarring tale.

Rayle: (THROUGH TEARS)

Wow. I mean, you’ve completely spoiled the book I was
reading but..

The group of friends laugh. The camera pans out and then
focuses on the stars above. Two stars in question shine
brighter than the rest.
