Note: The transmission will be assembled in major components. The major components will then
be assembled.
Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before assembly, all parts should be thoroughly cleaned
in cleaning fluid. Allow the parts to air dry. Wiping cloths or rags should not be used to dry parts.
Lint may be deposited on the parts which may cause later trouble. Inspect all parts. If any parts are
worn or damaged, use new parts for replacement.

Note: Apply a light film of clean transmission oil to all components before assembly.
Note: O-rings, gaskets, and seals should always be replaced. A used O-ring may not have the
same sealing properties as a new O-ring. Use 1U-6396 O-Ring Assembly Compound during the
assembly procedure.

1. Install the needle thrust bearings on the shafts. The open end of cups (1) must point away
from the bearings or gears that are contacted.
Reverse Shaft
1. Install seal (18) onto piston (17).
2. Install piston (17).
3. Install spring (15).
Improper assembly of parts that are spring loaded can cause bodily
injury.
To prevent possible injury, follow the established assembly procedure

and wear protective equipment.
4. Use a suitable press and Tooling (G) in order to compress spring (15). Use Tooling (H) in
order to install retaining ring (16).
5. Install friction discs (13) and plates (14).
6. Install end plate (12) and retaining ring (11).
7. Install washer (8), thrust bearing (9) and roller bearing (10).
8. Install gear (4). Install roller bearing (5), thrust bearing (6), and washer (7). Raise the
temperature of bearing cone (3). Install bearing cone (3).
9. Install rings (1) onto reverse shaft (2).
10. Raise the temperature of bearing cone (19). Install bearing cone (19).
Input Shaft

5. Install discs (32) and plates (33).
7. Install washer (29) and thrust bearing (28). Install roller bearings (26) and (27).
8. Install gear (25).
9. Install thrust bearing (24) and washer (23).
11. Install ring (21).
12. Install O-ring (20) onto piston (19).

15. Use Tooling (G) and a suitable press in order to compress spring (17). Use Tooling (H) in

17. Remove retaining ring (13) and end plate (14).
18. Install washer (8), thrust bearing (9), roller bearing (10), spacer (11), and roller bearing (12).
19. Install gear (7), thrust bearing (6) and washer (5).
20. Install retaining ring (4).
22. Install rings (1) onto input shaft (2).
Shaft
1. Install seal (22) from piston (21).
3. Install spring assembly (19).

4. Use Tooling (G) and a suitable press in order to compress spring assembly (19). Use
Tooling (H) in order to install retaining ring (20).
7. Install washer (14) and thrust bearing (13). Install roller bearings (11) and (12).
8. Install gear (10).
9. Install thrust bearing (9) and washer (8).
10. Raise the temperature of bearing cone (7).
11. Install rings (6).
12. Raise the temperature of gears (4) and (5). Install gears (4) and (5).
14. Install washer (2) and bolt (1).
Output Shaft (Rear)

7. Install washer (21), thrust bearing (22), roller bearing (23), spacer (24) and roller bearing
(25).
8. Raise the temperature of gear (20). Install gear (20).

13. Use a suitable press and Tooling (G) in order to compress spring assembly (15) and use
16. Install washer (10), needle bearing (9) and roller bearing (8).
17. Install gear (4), roller bearing (5), thrust bearing (6) and washer (7). Raise the temperature
of bearing cone (3). Install bearing cone (3).
18. Install rings (1) and (2).
Output Shaft (Front)
1. Install ring (20) and the O-ring onto piston (19).

4. Use a suitable press and Tooling (G) in order to compress spring assembly (17) and use
7. Install washer (8), thrust bearing (9), caged roller bearing (10), spacer (11), and caged roller
bearing (12).
8. Raise the temperature of gear (3). Install gear (3). Install needle bearing (4), washer (5),
bearing cone (6), and spacer (7).
9. Raise the temperature of bearing cone (2). Install bearing cone (2). Install ring (1).
Final Assembly
1. Install tube assemblies (52).
2. Install lip seal (51).
3. Install bearing cups (50).
4. Install reverse shaft assembly (49).
5. Use Tooling (C), the washer, and bolt (29) in order to install rear output shaft (46), shaft
(47), and input shaft (48). The combined weight of rear output shaft (46), shaft (47), and
input shaft (48) is approximately 61 kg (135 lb).
6. Install front output shaft assembly (45).
7. Install any shims that were present during the disassembly procedure. Lower the
temperature of bearing cups (40), (41), (42), (43) and (44). Install bearing cups (40), (41),
(42), (43) and (44). Install lip seal (39). Install tube assemblies (37) and (38).
8. Apply Tooling (K) to one side of case assembly (35). Attach Tooling (B) and a suitable
lifting device to case assembly (35). The weight of case assembly (35) is approximately
64 kg (140 lb). Install case assembly (35). Install bolts (36).
9. Install a bolt in the output shaft. The output shaft must be fully seated. Install tooling (J), as
shown. Zero Tooling (J). Pry up on the bolt and record the reading on Tooling (J). The
reading must be 0.030 mm (0.0012 inch) to 0.080 mm (0.0031 inch). Add or remove shims
in Step 7 in the Final Assembly Procedure in order to obtain the correct reading.
10. Repeat Step 9 for the input shaft (48) and the output shaft (front) (45). Use the same
tolerance for all of the shafts. Remove the expansion plug in order to check the input shaft.
Use a screwdriver to pry up on the input shaft. Install a new expansion plug.
11. Install screen (34).
12. Install O-ring seal (33).
13. Install cover (31) and bolts (32).
14. Install rear output yoke assembly (30) and bolt (29). Install speed sensor (28).
15. Install the gasket. Install front output yoke assembly (27) and bolt (26).
16. Install O-rings (25) onto filter base assembly (24).
17. Install filter base assembly (24) and bolts (23).
18. Install O-ring seals (21) and (22) onto valve group (18).
19. Install O-ring seals (19) and (20) onto valve group (17).
20. Install valve groups (17) and (18).
21. Install tube assembly (16). Install solenoid valve assemblies (15) and bolts (14).
22. Slide shaft (13) into the transmission.
23. Install lip seal (12) onto pump group (10).
24. Install seal (11).
25. Install pump group (10) and bolts (9).
26. Install gear (8). Install plate (7) and bolts (6).
27. Install hose assemblies (4) and coupler (5).
28. Install torque converter (2). Install cable strap (3) in order to secure torque converter (2) to
transmission (1) during the installation of transmission (1).
End By:
a. Install the transmission. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Transmission (Power Shift) -
Install".

Transmission (Power Shift) - Assemble

1. Install seal (18) onto piston (17).

2. Install piston (17).

To prevent possible injury, follow the established assembly procedure

9. Install rings (1) onto reverse shaft (2).

8. Install gear (25).

9. Install thrust bearing (24) and washer (23).

11. Install ring (21).

12. Install O-ring (20) onto piston (19).

13. Install piston (19).

14. Install spring (17).

To prevent possible injury, follow the established assembly procedure

16. Install discs (15) and plates (16).

17. Remove retaining ring (13) and end plate (14).

20. Install retaining ring (4).

22. Install rings (1) onto input shaft (2).

3. Install spring assembly (19).

Output Shaft (Rear)

1. Install seal (33) onto piston (32).

2. Install piston (32).

3. Install spring assembly (30).

To prevent possible injury, follow the established assembly procedure

5. Install friction discs (28) and plates (29).

6. Install end plate (27) and retaining ring (26).

8. Raise the temperature of gear (20). Install gear (20).

10. Install seal (18) onto piston (17).

11. Install piston (17).

12. Install spring assembly (15).

To prevent possible injury, follow the established assembly procedure

14. Install friction discs (13) and plates (14).

15. Install end plate (12) and retaining ring (11).

18. Install rings (1) and (2).

Output Shaft (Front)

1. Install ring (20) and the O-ring onto piston (19).

2. Install piston (19).

3. Install spring assembly (17).
