This is my 1st-week attending a Contemporary Dance Class. On that day, I came a bit late to
class around 5:15 p.m. because before this class we have another class which was Advanced
Acting so I need to perform my Zohor prayer first before attending the class. Upon arriving at
class, I apologized to Sir Naim and fill up my attendance in Ufuture.

In the first hour of the class, we start with Sir Naim explaining a little theory about
Contemporary Dance Class. Sir Naim also elucidated how our marks will be totalled. There
will be three assessments alike our previous sem.

First Assessment:
30% - Techniques, Memorisation, Confident + ( journal + report + attendance )

Second Assessment:
30% - Techniques, Memorisation, Confident + ( journal + report + attendance )

Final Assessment:
40% - Group Work, Techniques, Memorisation, Confident (each is 10 marks)

Then, we learned about several histories and notable people in Contemporary Dance.

For example:

Ruth St. Denis

Isadora Duncan

Ted Shawn
Loie Fuller
Martha Graham
 Contraction
Doris Humphrey  Release Merce Cunningham
 Flexibility
 Fall
 Bending side, back,
 Recovery
torso

Next, Sir gave us group work which we need to do a presentation on one of the notable
dancers above so “Isadora Duncan” was chosen for my group to present anything about the
history of her dances.

After that, we put aside all of our things because we will start learning the practical stuff. So
everyone spread out and find some space so that we won’t accidentally hit our friends. The
step we did was:
1. Contraction (roll down 1234) and Release (roll back up 5678) [ 2x ].
2. Contraction (roll down 1234) and Swing (start from right 5678).
3. Swing to the right while spinning on the floor, and do a Child’s Pose but keep your
left leg outside [1234]. Next, slide your right arm under your left armpit and turn
around so your last pose will be lying down on the floor [5678].
4. Swing the right leg to the left side and go back (12). Swing the left leg to the right
side and go back (34) [ 2x ].
5. Bend your knees and release your body while rising up + releasing your knee. Bend
your upper body towards your knee (1234), quickly roll back and push your pelvis
and legs pointing up toward the ceiling. (5678) [ Use your elbow as support and
place your hand behind your pelvis to support your leg. ]
6. Make an ‘L’ shape using the legs starting with the right and then the left.
(12345678).
7. Rollback (1234), Dive and do a Cobra Pose. (5678).
8. Mountain Pose (1234), lift up and bend the right leg while turning around and the
last pose will be like sitting on the floor while eating but your left leg is left open.
(5678)
9. Last but not least, close the left leg and then swing back your left leg following your
body and your last pose will be you sitting on your knees.

We dismiss the class early on that day because some of us will be breaking the fast at 7 p.m..
