Our game is called “4 pics, 1 word”.

be given four (4) photos in a grid. All you need to do is
guess the correct word by analyzing the pictures. And you
are going to paste it on the board. When I say “Go”, you

Let us read the words that you’ve guessed.

You guessed it right everyone! All your answers are correct

so you have 5 points for your group.

“Are you familiar with this sport class? Yes, Rivas. usually throws a heavy disc as far as we
can.)

Okay thank you regine for sharing your ideas. You may
now seat.

D. Presentation/Discussion

For today’s lesson, we will talk about the basic skills of

bowling but before that let’s define what is Discus Throw?

Discus throw is an event in track and field athletics

competition, in which an athlete throws a heavy disc—
called a discus—in an attempt to mark a farther distance
than his or her competitors. The discus throw is a routine
part of most modern track and field meets at all levels and
is a sport which is particularly iconic of the Olympic
Games. The men's competition has been a part of the
modern Summer Olympic Games since the first Olympiad
in 1896.

Do you understand what Discus Throw sport is now?

Now let’s move on to the basic skills in Discus Throw.

We have 6 basic skills in Discus Throw, the first one is the

Grip.
Please read everyone.

1) Gripping the Discus (Student reading the text)

The athlete has to place the hand flat on the discus such
that it is held with the fingers spread slightly and thumb
used for balance.

2) Swing
In a swinging or rhythmic action, the athlete moves the
discus back and forth in motion to gain momentum with his
shoulders, arms relaxed and concentrates deeply.

I have here a video class for you to watch and observe the
proper swinging of the disc.

So are we clear class?

(Yes, ma'am Dan)
3) Spin
During a one and a half turn rotation, the athlete’s body
accumulates as much energy as possible and he / she
pushes powerfully off the left leg (If right-handed), while
the left arm acts as a counter-weight along the axis of the
shoulders.

Please read, Reyes.

(Student reading the text)

4) Drive
Up to the last moment, the trunk and arms are extended
with the hips, legs and feet in motion.

5) Release
Using the right leg as lever the athlete quickly straightens
the body and thus the discus is thrown in an explosive
motion with the arms moving around.

So to better understand the spin and the release of the

discus, I have prepared a video on how to do it in a
throwing circle. Please watch and observe.

I have also here a Step by Step Discus Throw Technique.

1. GRIP. Hold onto the discus with one hand. Place

your palm down on the top of the discus so that it is
facing the ground. Then spread out your fingers
along the outer edge of the discus so they are evenly
spaced.

Okay class, do you now know how to grip a discus?

Very good! Let us proceed. The second one that we should

apply when doing a discus throw is the stance.

2. Stance
Face away from your target. Stand in the back
of the ring with your feet wider than shoulder-width
apart and your knees and waist slightly bent.

3. Wind Up
Hold the discus high in front of your left shoulder.
Swing the discus back toward your right shoulder. This
action can be repeated once or twice, if necessary, to
establish a rhythm.

4. Starting the Throw

Rotate your torso clockwise, bringing the discus as far
back as you can, holding it in your throwing hand only (if
the target is at 12 o’clock, you should end up facing 9 or 10
o’clock). Your non-throwing arm should be pointed in the
opposite direction as your throwing arm. Keep your
throwing hand as far from your body as possible
throughout the throw. Your weight is on your right foot.
Your left heel is off the ground.

Are we clear class?

Okay, very good! Let us proceed.

5. Beginning the Turn to the Center of the Ring

Begin rotating your shoulders in the direction of the
throw as you shift your weight to your left foot, then pick
your right foot up and swing it around the left. Pivot on the
ball of your left foot as you spin toward the center of the
ring.

6. Completing the Turn to the Center of the Ring

Just before your right foot lands in the center of the
ring, push off with your left foot and continue pivoting
toward the front of the ring.

7. Turn to the Power Position

Pivot on your right foot, swinging the left leg to the
front of the ring. Your left foot should land outside of the
right. If you drew a line from your right foot to the target,
your left foot should be slightly left of the line.

8. Power Position
Assume the power position, with your left side, planted
and firm, and your left arm pointing forward. Your weight
should be shifting from your right side to your left. Your
throwing arm should be behind you, outstretched, with the
discus at about hip level.

9. Release
Continue shifting your weight forward as you pivot
your hips. Bring your arm up at approximately a 35-degree
angle to release the discus. The discus should leave your
hand smoothly off the index finger with your hand at about
shoulder height. Follow through, rotating to your left to
remain in the ring and avoid fouling.

I have here class a video of the Beginning the Turn to the

Center of the Ring up unto the Release of the discus. Please
watch and observe.

https://youtu.be/c-BlZ3CWSK8

After watching the video, can you say that this kind of
sport is somehow interesting? Okay, Matias.

So that’s what we need to know how to throw the discus

correctly and efficiently.

Do you now understand the basic skills in Discus Throw

class? (Yes ma’am. Although it is not really a
popular sport, I think this kind of sport
Let me see if you are really listening and learned something should also be appreciated.)
today.Again, what are the basic skills in Discus Throw
class?

“Okay class very good!”

A. Generalization

Discus is an activity that may even take years to master

and properly perform. Perfecting the complicated technique
takes loads of work, but by implementing good habits,
technique, and exercises, throwing can be greatly
improved. Although the concept is simple, the technique is
not easy to excel at. In order to do so, you must fully
comprehend the basics of Discus Throw.

B. Application

To test your knowledge we are going to have

another activity. I will group you all into five groups.
Each group must perform the Power Position and the
releasing of the discus in front of the class. You only
have 3 minutes to practice.

C. Evaluation

Answer the following questions below and write it on a

whole sheet of paper.

1. Enumerate the basic skills in Discus Throw.

2. Why is it important to know the proper holding of
the discus?Explain briefly.
3. In your own opinion, what is Discus Throw?

D. Assignment
In our next meeting, memorize the basic skills in Discus
Throw.
