PRELIMINARIES ACTIVITIES

A. Greetings
Good morning, class!
Good morning, Ma’am!
I am teacher Ma. Nirreza C. Rosendal.

B. Prayer
Before we proceed to our main topic.
May I request someone to lead the prayer? (Student will lead the Prayer)

Let’s all bow our head and feel the presence

of the Lord. (Prayer time)

D. Securing the Cleanliness

How are you feeling today class? We feel great ma’am!
That’s good to hear!

And may I just remind you of the CLEAGO

rule, which is clean as you enter, cleaner as
you go.

C. Checking of Attendance

Okay class, you may take your sits.

(Adjusting the seat properly)
And let’s check your attendance.
Please raise your hand and say "present"
when your name is called.

Who is absent today?

Ok ma’am!

Ok!
None, ma’am
ELICIT

Before we continue to our main topic for

today, let's go back first to our previous topic.

What was the topic last meeting? It’s all about speed, velocity, distance, and
Anybody? displacement ma’am!

Ok, so what is speed? Ma’am speed, it is the rate at which an object

changes its location.

How about velocity what does it means? Velocity describes the speed and direction of an
object.

What is distance and displacement? Distance is the total movement of an object without
any regard to direction. Displacement is the final
distance of a point from the initial point.

How does speed, velocity, distance, and Speed, if a person walks 50 meters in 25 seconds,
displacement work in real life situation? their speed is 2 m/s.
Velocity, if a car is moving at a constant speed of
80 km/h towards the east.
Distance, if you complete one full lap around the
track, the distance you have covered is 400
meters, which is the total ground covered during
your motion.
Displacement, however, since you start and end at
the same point, your overall change in position is
zero. So, your displacement is 0 meters.
Very well!
I'm glad you still remember something from
the previous topic.

ENGAGE
To start with the topic, we will be going to do
an activity all you have to do is to hold your
vocal throat and let’s sing this song.
(The teacher will show a video)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l-
64INXIolE

What did you observe about the video? Ma’am, the video shows how the waves carry
energy to move Moana’s boat on the surface of the
water.
What happen to your vocal cord? It produces sound waves that generate the
vibration of the vocal cord in the throat.
Alright thank you!
And now can you guess our topic for today?
Anyone who can give me the correct answer
will receive a reward.
It’s all about wave ma’am.
Good job!

EXPLORE
You have probably seen a wave, but have None, ma’am!
you created one?

Let’s try and make some waves, now we will

be going to do an activity.

Direction:

 You will be divided into two teams

and then you will choose four
representatives to play in the game.
 One of your teammates will hold one
end of the yarn and the other will hold
the other end. (Students participate on the game)
 Each of the three has a rubber band
through which the yarn is inserted.
 The person holding the end of the
yarn will stay still while the other three
will move the yarn up and down.
 The goal is to get them to the person
holding the end of the yarn.
 Each team will have a maximum of 2
minutes to finish the game.
 Whoever are the fastest wins the
game.

Observe what happens to the rope. Were Yes, ma’am, when we move our hands up and
you able to make a wave? down while holding one end of the rope, it creates
a wave on the rope ma’am!
That’s right!

Based on the activity, is there any Yes, ma’am, there is a difference in the waves.
differences on the waves you have created? Some are small and some are big. It depends on
the energy of the rope's movement.

Very good!

EXPLAIN
Based on the video and the activity earlier,
what is your idea about wave? A wave is a transfer of energy through a medium
from one point to another.
What are some examples of wave?
Some examples of waves include water waves,
sound waves, and radio waves.
We mentioned earlier about medium. What
do you think medium really is? A medium is a matter in which waves can travel
and transfer energy.
That’s right!

Anyone who can give me, the three type of

waves? Transverse wave, Longitudinal wave, Surface wave
ma’am!

Alright, now, I have three diagrams here, and

I want a volunteer to look at it then determine
which is Transverse wave, Longitudinal
wave, and Surface wave.

Transverse wave - is a wave in which particles of

the medium move perpendicular to the direction of
the motion of the waves.

Longitudinal wave - is a wave in which the particles

of the medium vibrate parallel to the direction of the
motion of the waves.

Surface Wave - are combination of transverse and

longitudinal waves. These move in a circular
pattern as the waves pass by.

Very good!

Now, let’s proceed to longitudinal wave.

How many types does a longitudinal wave
There are two ma’am!
have?

What are the two types of longitudinal wave?

One of the types of longitudinal wave are
compression which is a point where the coils are
close together or has the maximum density.
Anyone from the class, who can give me the
The other types of longitudinal wave ma’am are
other type of longitudinal wave? rarefaction which is a point in the spring where the
coils are spread out or has minimum density.

Very well class!

ELABORATE
So, now, we will be going to do an activity get Yes, ma’am!
your activity notebook.

Activity 1. Let’s Make Waves!

What happen when waves pass by?

Direction:
You are given 30 minutes to perform the
activity and to answer the questions in the
activity sheet.

What are transverse waves?

1. Sketches showing the motion of a

wave pulse at three subsequent
instances (snapshots at three
different times).
Time 1
Time 2
Time 3
a. What is the source of the wave pulse?
b. Describe the motion of your hand as
you create the pulse.
c. Describe the motion of the pulse with
respect to the source. The Pulse move
away from the source.
2. [Sketch of the waveform or the
shape of the wave created by the
students.]

a. Does the wave transport the colored

ribbon from its original position to the
end of the rope?
b. Describe the vibration of the colored
ribbon. How does it move as waves
pass by? Does it move in the same
direction as the wave?

What are longitudinal waves?

1. Sketches of longitudinal waves in a

coil spring.
2. [Observations on the colored
ribbon tied to the coil spring.]
a. Does the wave transport the colored
ribbon from its original position to the
end of the rope?
b. Describe the vibration of the colored
ribbon. How does it move as waves
pass by?

What are surface waves?

1. [Sketch of the waves as seen from

the above the water basin.] The
source of the disturbance should
be marked.
2. [Observation on the paper boat.]
a. Do the waves set the paper boat
into motion? What is required to
set an object into motion?
b. If you exert more energy in
creating periodic waves by tapping
the surface with greater strength,
how does this affect the movement
of the paper boat?
3. [Observations on the figure
showing water waves.]
a. As shown in the figure, the
passage of wave across a surface
of a body of water involves the
motion of particles following a
circular pattern about their original
positions.
b. Does the wave transport water
molecules from the source of the
vibration? Support your answer
using the shown figure.
Ma’am, waves can be typified according to the
After answering your activity, what does direction of motion of the vibrating particles with
waves means? respect to the direction in which the waves travel.

Transverse waves, longitudinal waves, and surface

Can you give me the three types of waves? waves, ma’am!

Transverse waves, ma’am!

Waves in a rope are called?
Perpendicular to the direction in which waves travel
Because the individual segment of the rope ma’am!
vibrates?
Longitudinal waves, ma’am!
Waves in a coil spring are called?
Surface waves, ma’am!
It is the combination of transverse and
longitudinal waves in which water molecules
moves in a circular pattern as waves pass by.
Waves can set other objects into motion.
How do we know that waves carry energy?
Particles vibrate alternately to transport the energy
What happens when waves pass by? of the wave.

Good job everyone!
