A Detailed Lesson Plan in Science 7

I. TARGET

GENERAL OBJECTIVES
Understand motion in terms of distance and displacement

At the end of 60 – minute lesson and activity, students without consulting a textbook should be
able to:
SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES
1. Define motion.
2. Identify distance and displacement.
3. Differentiate distance and displacement.
4. Create and interpret visual presentation using diagrams.
II. LEARNING TASK
A. TOPIC: MOTION (DISTANCE AND DISPLACEMENT)
B. TEXTBOOK: SCIENCE 7. PP. 166-174
C. SCIENCE CONCEPTS
MOTION is the movement and change in position of an object.
DISTANCE is the total length travelled by an object. It does not depend on
direction.
DISPLACEMENT is the shortest length travelled by an object. It depends on
direction.
D. SKILLS
1. Describing motion in terms of distance and displacement
2. Performing group activity regarding motion in terms of distance and displacement.
E. INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS FOR THE TEACHER:
Laptop
FOR THE STUDENTS:
Activity sheet

F. VALUE
1. This lesson teaches us the importance of knowing where have you been and where are
you going.
2. This lesson is related to our journey in life, that we have the difficult way or the
easy way to reach our destination in life we have to decide your own destination.
G. TEACHING STRATEGIES

A. PREPARATION
1. Opening prayer
2. Greetings

4. Checking of attendance
5. Review of the past lesson
B. MOTIVATION
Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity
Okay class, are you familiar with ZUMBA? Yes, ma’am.

Please stand up, and I will play a short video and

you will follow the Zumba instructor.

Okay let’s do Zumba (Playing video) Students are following the steps

Be seated, thank you for your cooperation class.

Okay class, as you dance did Ma’am yes, we move.
you move?
If you moved, did you change in Yes ma’am.
position?
Very good! Yes ma’am, we are in motion.
If you move and change in
position, can we say that you are
in motion while dancing?
Now what do you think is our Ma’am our topic for today is all ppt
topic for today? about motion.
Very good! Ma’am when I hear the word
Our topic for today is all about motion the first thing that comes
motion. So class, when you hear into my mind is the movements
the word motion what comes in of objects
to your mind?
Very good! We can relate the Zumba to ppt
Now how can we relate the motion because while dancing
Zumba to our topic motion? we are moving step by step and
we change our position every
time we dance.
Precisely, Motion is a movement of an

motion? MOTION occurs when an object
changes position.

Can you give example of objects A man walking

that are in motion?
Another example? A crawling ant
Another example? A horse running
Class, any questions? Answers may vary
There are quantities that Ma’am quantities that describe Ppt
describe motion. What are motion are distance and
these? displacement
Very good! Distance refers to the length of Ppt
now let’s first discuss about the entire path that the object
distance. What is distance? travelled. It tells how far an
object travels and does not
depend on direction.
How do we measure distance? Distance is measure by cm, Ppt
inches, meters, km, and etc.
In our Zumba what represents These are the steps that we do
distance? while we are dancing.
Let’s say A man is walking, Ma’am the distance travelled by Visual aid
then each step is equivalent of our classmate is 6cm.
1km. Now may I ask you, if
your classmate travels 6 steps
what do you think is the distance
travelled by your classmate?
And trace the path travelled in a
piece of paper
Another, your classmate moves Ma'am the distance travel by our
10 steps, what do you think is classmate is 10m
the distance travel by him? And
trace the path travelled in a
sheet
of paper.
Class, I have an example here. Ma'am the distance travelled by
What is the distance travelled by the ball is 5m.
the ball?
Any question? Answers may vary
Now let us discuss about Displacement refers to the
displacement. What is shortest distance between the
displacement? object's two position, like the
distance between its point of
origin and its point of
destination,
no matter what path it took to
get
that destination. Displacement
does depend on direction.
Now, let's say that your Ma'am the total distance
classmates move 5 steps to the travelled
right and 2m left, move 5steps by our classmate is 12m
to the left, what is the total (tracing the path)
distance travelled by your
classmate? Trace the path
travelled.
Very good! Ma'am the displacement of our
What about the displacement? classmate is 2m to the north.
Remember that displacement
depends on direction.
Now, let's say that the ball roll Ma'am the total distance
5m. What is the total distance travelled
travelled by the ball? by the ball is 5m
Now let's find the displacement The displacement of the ball is

east.
When does displacement equal When the path travelled is a
to distance? straight line
Very good!! No, it can be shorter but it
Is displacement possible to be cannot
greater than distance? Why? be greater than the distance.
Displacement is the shortest
length between the object's point
of origin and its point of
destination.
That's right. Now, what if the Their total distances will

You will be group into six
groups. For each group, you
should prepare your output with
power point presentation and the
other member will report it to
the class. You only have 10
minutes to answer, and your
timer starts now.

questions?
Now, let us summarize our Ma'am, we discussed that
discussion for today. motion is the movement of an
object and it occurs when an
object changes its position.

We also learned that distance is

the total length travelled by an
object and it does not depend on
direction while displacement is
the shortest distance between the
object's two positions and does
depend on direction.

ILLUSTRATING DISTANCE AND DISPLACEMENT

OBJECTIVES
A. Identify distance and displacement
B. Differentiate distance and displacement

INTRODUCTION:
In our everyday life everything we do from the time we wake up and open our eyes we already moved.
Moving is a big part of our everyday life. Motion is the movement of objects. The quantities that describe
this are distance and displacement.
Distance refers to the total length travelled by an object. In determining the distance we just simply add
the distances travelled by an object. This does not depend on direction. It is
measured by centimeters, meters, and kilometers. Displacement is the shortest distance travelled by an
object and this does depends on direction. It is also measured by centimeters, meters, and kilometers.

MATERIALS:
POWER POINT PRESENTATION

PROCEDURE:
1. Observe the given diagram.
2. Answer the following questions based on the posted diagram.

QUESTIONS:
What is the total distance of the car?
2. What is the displacement of the car?
3. How is distance different from displacement?
V. ASSIGNMENT

A. FOLLOW-UP
DIRECTION: On a short bond paper draw your house-to-school roadmap that shows how you get to
school from your house. Estimate the distance using a scale of 1cm equals to 1km. Don't
forget to write the names of the road, landmarks, and establishment you pass by.

Scale: 1cm = 1km

B. ADVANCE
DIRECTION: On your science notebook answer the following question CORRECTLY

1. Define the following;

a. Speed
b. Speedometer
c. Velocity
2. Differentiate the two types of speed.
3. Give the formula in solving the speed of an object.
