A Detailed Lesson Plan in Science 7

I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson, 100% of the students with at least 75% level of proficiency must
have:

a. describdescribede the characteristics of sound;

b. identified how organisms produce, transmit, and receive sound of various
frequencies(infrasonic, audible, and ultrasonic sound)

II. Subject Matter

a. Topic: THE SOUND
b. Reference: Science learner’s material ( Quarter’s 1-4 ) 7,pp. 31-34
Exploring life through science series, the new grade 7,pp. 225-231
c. Instructional Materials: DLP, learners material, Power Point Presentation, Pictures,
Handkerchief,Cotton balls, laptop
d. Strategies/Method: Direct teaching, Observing, Communicating, Classifying,
Comparing.
e. Values Integration: Appreciate the importance of sound.

III. Procedure

Teacher’s Activity Students' Activity

A. Preliminary Activities
Prayer
May we all stand for the prayer. Who can lead the
prayer? (A student lead the prayer)

Good morning class! Good morning Sir!

Before setting, let’s have an energizer/warm up

first. (Students’ doing an
(giving an energizer to the students) energizer/warm up)

Thank you Sir.

Thank you! You may now take your seats.

Checking of Attendance
Let me check the attendance first. Make sure that Yes, Sir!
you are in your proper seats so that you will not be
marked absent. (Check attendance using a seat
plan)

Very Good! Everybody is present today.

B. Review of the Past Discussion It’s about waves around you .

Do you still remember our lesson last meeting,
class? What had we discussed?

Sir!
Yes. Exactly! Now, who can give me a summary
about Waves.
Waves Sir is about is a
Yes, please! disturbance that travels or
propagates from the place where
it was created. Waves transfer
energy from one place to another,
Very Good! but they do not necessarily
transfer any mass. Light, sound,
C. Motivation and waves in the ocean are
common examples of waves.

carrier of energy)

D. Discussion/Lesson Proper
Now, anyone can share your thoughts or ideas
about what are the things you have observed in the
video?
Yes ma’am!
Yes, please.

Very Good! Another one.

Very Good! Seems like you have already an idea of

what was our topic for today. Ma’am!

Our topic for today is about Waves. A wave is a (Student’s shared his/her own
periodic disturbance that moves away from the ideas)
source and carries energy with it. It is constantly
being created and always traveling through (Student's shared another idea)
different media.
Thank you ma’am!
What do you think class, are the different types of
waves?
Very good! Thank you.

The 3 types of mechanical waves: are Transverse

waves, Longitudinal waves, and Surface waves.

Transverse Waves (Student's shared his/her own

Waves which have a tendency to travel ideas)
perpendicular to an applied force. Transverse Thank you ma’am!
begins with the letter “T”. It looks like a
perpendicular.

The highest part of a transverse wave is called crest

and the lowest point is called trough.

Now, what do you think class where is the force

and the wave direction in this diagram?

The force ma’am is in B to C.

And the wave direction is in A to
B.
Thank you! Another opinion?

Very Good!

Here AB is the force applied and BC is the wave

direction. Ma’am!
The force ma’am is in A to B.
Therefore, the wave travels perpendicular to the And the wave direction is in B to

transverse in nature.
Thank you ma’am!
Now, what do you think class what type of wave is
this?

Exactly, Very good!

Longitudinal waves ma’am!

Thank you ma’am!

Longitudinal Waves
Longitudinal mechanical waves are waves that
travel parallel to the applied force.
A longitudinal wave can be experimented with the
help of a spring slinky by you and one other person.
The other end can be held still while you hit your
end.

Surface Waves
When certain waves travel along two different
mediums, such as air and water or liquids of
different densities is called as surface waves.
When wind blows over. It causes wave called
surface wave. These waves are totally different as
compared to the other waves as it moves in circular
motion.

What do you think class, what type of wave has the

strongest vibration?

Thank you for that!

Now, The wave that have the strongest vibration is

the surface waves. And, It is the surface waves
which cause most property damage because surface (Students shared his/her own
waves produce more ground movement and travel ideas)
more slowly, so they take longer to pass.
Thank you ma’am!
Surface Waves has two types; the love wave and
the Rayleigh wave. Love waves, which are shear
waves trapped near the surface.

and Rayleigh waves, which have rock particle

motions that are very similar to the motions of
water particles in ocean waves.

E. Generalization
I know that you’ve learned a lot on our discussion
for today. So, who can give me first a brief
definition about what is wave.

Yes, please!

Ma’am!

Wave ma’am is a disturbance in a

Very Good! medium that carries energy
without a net movement of

intensity, electric potential, or

Ma’am!
There are three types of wave;
The Transverse Wave, The
Longitudinal Wave, and The
Surface Wave. Transverse Wave
is a waves which have a tendency
to travel perpendicular to an

Longitudinal Wave is a waves

F. Application
Now, that you have understand what is wave. I
have a question for you class, How are waves
important to everyday life?

Yes, go ahead!

Ma’am!

Waves is important in Everyday

Life. Just like, the sound. The
sound is a type of wave that
moves through matter and then
vibrates our eardrums so we can

waves (microwaves) to cook our
food really fast.

Ma’am!

Waves ma’am are seen in

everywhere. The basic kinds of
waves ma’am are the light waves

see this kind of waves but we can
experience them in other ways.
Our ears can detect sound waves
and our skin can get burned by
ultraviolet rays. If you stay under
the sun for too long.
