A DETAILED LESSON PLAN FOR GRADE 7

Prepared by April Jane B. Garzon

I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson the Grade 7 students will be able to:
1. Define distance and displacement
2. Solve problems involving distance and displacement.
3. Show appreciation on the concept of distance and displacement to real life
situation.

d. Science Concept:
Motion is a change in position with respect to a reference point. An object is said
to be moving when it has travelled a certain distance or displaced from a point of
reference.

III. PROCEDURE
Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity
A. Preliminary Activities

Good morning class! Good morning Ma’am!

How are you today? We are fine Ma’am. Thank you.

Let’s have our prayer first. (Students are Praying)

Before you take your seats, please pick up Yes Ma’am!

papers under your chairs and arrange your
chairs properly and quietly.

You may now take your seats.

 Setting House Rules

Before we start the class, a simple house

rules will be imposed all throughout the
session.

 Students must listen attentively

when someone is talking in front.

 If there is clarification or questions

just raise your hand.
 Students’ participation is highly
suggested.
Yes Ma’am!
Are we clear with that?

None Ma’am.
 Checking of Attendance
Who is absent?

Very good!

Very good! Now that you remembered what
is Motion all about. Let’s proceed to a new
exciting lesson.

B. Motivation

Present a clip about distance and

displacement. Ask students what they notice
between the two clips.

 Title
Our lesson for today class is “Distance and
Displacement”. Distance and Displacement

Everyone, read our topic for today.

C. Objectives

At the end of the lesson the Grade X students

will be able to:
1. Define distance and displacement
2. Solve problems involving distance
and displacement.
3. Show appreciation on the concept
of distance and displacement to real life
situation. At the end of the lesson the Grade X
students will be able to:
1. Define distance and displacement
Joraidah, read the objectives. 2. Solve problems involving
distance and displacement.
3. Show appreciation on the concept
of distance and displacement to real life

Activity (Activity sheet)

The teacher will give the class an activity
sheet and students will perform the Activity
and answer the following questions.
Answer
1. 30 m
Analysis 2. 10 m, South
1. What is the total path covered by 3. Red line indicates distance.
coin from point A to point D? Black line indicates Displacement.
2. What is the measurement and
direction if the coin moves from
point A to point D?
3. What do you think do the red and
black lines indicate?

Abstract
Distance is usually described as the total
path length travelled by an object. It only
consist magnitude. It is expressed in units
such as meter, kilometer, feet, and the like.
However, the standard SI unit for distance is
a meter.

Displacement refers to the shortest distance

between the object’s two positions, like the
distance between its point of origin and its
point of destination. This means that
displacement is expressed as magnitude with
the corresponding direction. Answer

To get the distance and displacement let’s d= 15m + 8m + 15m

have an example.
d= 38m
Example 1

You want to walk to the park from your

house. What is your total distance and Displacement = 23 - 15
displacement? = 8 m, South

Answer

d= 10m + 5m

d= 15 m
Example 2

From your house you go to church and pray.

After going to church you go back and stop Displacement = 10m + (- 5m)
at the center because you are tired. Calculate = 5 m, East
the distance and displacement.

Application

Base on the illustration.

1. You want to go home early which
path did you take and why? Distance refers to the length of the entire
path that the object travelled while
2. If you want to have a quality time displacement refers to the shortest distance
together with your classmate which between the two objects positions.
path did you want to take and why?
No ma’am

Yes ma’am
E. Generalization

What is the distance and displacement?

Can distance be zero?

How about displacement, can displacement

become zero?

Very good!

Any questions? Clarifications?

Thank you so much class. Since there’s no

any questions. Let’s now have quiz.

IV. EVALUATION

Part I. Multiple choice

Direction: Read and encircle the correct answer.
1. It refers to the length of the entire path that the object travelled.
a. displacement b. distance c. reference point d. motion
2. Scott travels north 5 miles and then goes west 3 miles before coming straight back south 2
miles. What is his distance?
a. 10 m b. 8 m c.7 m d. 6 m
3. It refers to the shortest distance between the two objects positions.
a. displacement b. distance c. reference point d. motion

4. Jerry walked from home to school, then from the school to the park. What is his total
displacement?
a. 7 km to the Park b. 4 km to the School c. 2 km to the Park d. 10 km to the park
Part II. Essay
5-10. Base on the illustration, you want to go to the park because your very much excited to
play. Which path did you take and why? Write 2 – 3 sentences only.

V. ASSIGNMENT

Directions:
Draw a diagram for the following situations. Calculate the distance and displacement
in the each of the following situations. Include the direction with your answer. Write it in a
clean Short white bond paper.

1. Ha-ri walks 2 miles north from her door to the park, then returns home to her door.
2. On a fishing trip, Samantha and Rachel take the boat 12 km south. The fish aren’t
biting so they go 4 km west.
Activity: Moving Coin

 Red and Black Pen

Procedures:

1. Place the coin at point A and move it to point B. After you move the coin draw a line using a
red pen from point A to point B and write the measurement into 15 m.
2. From point B move the coin to point C. After you move the coin draw a line using a red pen
from point B to point C and write the measurement into 10 m.
3. From point C move the coin to point D. After you move the coin draw a line using a red pen
from point C to point D and write the measurement into 15 m.
4. Draw a line from point A to point D using black pen.
