EXERCISE 2
Earth’s Biomes in General

1. Identify the people, places, events, society, or nature that are the focus of this documentary.
Describe and clarify the significance of each.

The Deserts to Grasslands episode of Our Planet documentary series shows the sanctuaries we
have in our planet Earth. First of these is the desert, it makes a fifth of the land in our planet . Although
it is known to be a vastness of emptiness, deserts are home for many extinct animals. Atacama in
South America is the driest of all

2. Nonfiction documentaries can enrich viewers in several important ways, describe any
aspect of the film that showed you something that you hadn't seen before. In addition,
describe how it changed your thinking.

The documentary made me aware of the last forest in Manila, the Arroceros Forest Park. Before
watching the documentary “Ang Huling Gubat sa Maynila”, I have always picture Metro Manila to be
an urban area full of buildings or structures and with little to no trees at all.

3. What truths are presented in the documentary?

Arroceros Forest Park is the last forest in Manila. A standard area or town should have a park that
is ten minutes by walk near. Also, each Filipino should have fifty square meters of green space but
since Manila only have five percent of green space, it is highly impossible for people in the area to
have it. Parks are known to be the lungs of the city. It is where we can find solitude, rest our body and
mind, and reconnect with nature. In fact, according to the documentary, it is where cancer patients stay
to relax and unwind. The Arroceros Forest Park is a home of various endemic species, it is also said
that before there is only ten species of birds that can be found in the forest park but nowadays there are
already twenty five of it; some of the birds we can see in Arroceros are the black-naped oriol, yellow
vented bulbul, and Philippine pied fantail. The greenness of the forest park is maintained by Winner
Foundation and its volunteers. The Winner Foundation is an organization that takes care of the forest
park since 1990s. One of the volunteers is Mr. Tony Magno, a senior citizen who finds peace in
looking after the forest park. Although it is still existing, it used to be larger. The original land area of

Arroceros Forest Park is 2.2 hectares but due to construction of buildings, roads, and pathways it is
now smaller. The City of Manila has many plans on developing the park since it is the one who own it
after it was bought from the national government. Building of new structures and other way to utilize
its land area are the initial plan of the local government unit, and that may cause us to lose the last
forest of the city.

4. What information does it put forward?

We can make our world a greener place if we wanted to, not just merely wanting but through
doing real actions to achieve it. All of us seeks connection to nature. It is where we can boost our
moods, rest our souls, and feel peace. Thus, we must protect these green spaces and keep it growing.
