Goals/Purpose of the Internship (To be completed by intern):

Ability to stay informed of the rapidly evolving legal and political immigration landscape.
- Demonstrates knowledge of the undocumented and mixed family status student issues through programming, resource management and other professional activities.
- Support the planning, development, implementation, and assessment of programs and services offered by the University that serve our undocumented student population.
- Demonstrates knowledge of student development theory, multicultural identity development, leadership development, group dynamics and management theory and proven ability to
apply information in decision making and problem solving.
- Expertise in developing collaborative working relationship with other campus departments for the UndocuJoy events with specific attention to student affairs programming units and
ethnic studies academic departments, knowledge of programs which enhance and integrate the relationship between academic and student affairs.
- Knowledge in best practices in for undocumented students in identity and student development, retention, academic achievement, and emerging campus climate issues.
- Strong working knowledge of free speech issues on college campuses, and ability to support students appropriately as they grapple through issues in this area.
- Learn how to support the Undocumented Student Resource Center in its development and improvement of mental health resources and programming.
- Support students who qualify for the Alternative Application (Rise Act) with the Undocumented Student Resource Center. Access ISAC’s site and resources to aggregate best tips and
information.

The HESA586 internship must be in the area of higher education and student affairs related field. Upon approval
of the internship, the intern and field supervisor by mutual agreement will establish learning objectives and
activities for the internship that will be required as part of the internship course assignments to be due two weeks
into the semester. The intern and supervisor agree to follow all the guidelines for internship as listed on the information
sheets.
