COURSEWORK POLICIES

1. All coursework submitted must include


a. A copy of the full brief given by the assessor (with the signed coversheet)
b. All source material must be cited in the text and a full bibliography of source
material (including author, title, publisher and date) listed at the end of the
submission.

2. All work must be submitted in the mode instructed by the lecturer.

3. Work submitted under the student groupt’s name must only be the work of students in
that group. All information sources must be acknowledged. Plagiarism is a serious
offence and will render offenders liable to disciplinary action as set out in the Foreign
Trade University rules and regulation.

4. Students MUST keep a copy of all submitted work for reference purposes prior to the
original being handed in and returned. This will provide proof that the work was
completed, in the event that the work goes astray.

5. Whenever a candidate submits work after 1 days without an authorised extension, a


Referral grade will be awarded. Assessors may comment on the quality of the work
for learning purposes.

6. Requests for extensions of submission deadlines must be made in writing prior to the
submission deadline to the lecturer and must be supported by documentary evidence.

You are required to write a case report which addresses the following questions
based on the case study attached.

CASE: LOGSTOR’S REBIRTH

QUESTIONS:
Please refer to the attached case study LOGSTOR’S REBIRTH and answer the
following questions:

1. What are the main challenges that LOGSTOR’s supervisory board of


directors (BoD) was facting in April 2017 when the previous CEO
resigned less than three moths into the role?
2. What were Lostor’s considerations when its appointed Kim Christensen,
an outsider, as CEO? What were Kim’s considerations when he took on
the role and associated risk of leading a company in crisis?
3. What elements of Lostor’s organization did Kim redesign when he took
over in 2017? (30%)
4. What is Kim’s leadership style and its impact?
5. Can a CEO who succeed in managing through a crisis, also succeed in
leading the company during a period of business-as- usual or in a different
type of crisis?

QUESTIONS:
1. What are the personal and organizational reasons that led Ricardo Semler to
change his leadership style so markedly?
2. How would you characterize Semler’s early leadership style? And his later
leadership styles?
3. Discuss the pros and cons of Ricardo’s early and late styles.
4. To what extent do you think Ricardo would succeed as a leader in other types
of organization?
5. What are lessons you learn from the case?

CASE: NOKIA

1. Identify the collective thinking, feeling and behaviors of the top management team
with regard to external and internal factors. What prompted these to emerge?
2. Identify the collective thinking, feeling and behaviors of the middle management team
with regard to external and internal factors. What prompted these to emerge?
3. What are the main reasons (collective emotion) causing the innovation
underperformance and then the business failure? Explain.
4. If you were part of Nokia’s top management team, what would you have done
differently, and why?

NOTES TO STUDENTS FOR SUMMISSION

be accepted for failure to hand-in the work on time.

 Failure to achieve a PASS grade will results in a REFERRAL grade being given.
