ACTIVITY 1 GE 6 – Science, Technology
and Society
List two (2) examples (aside from the given example below) of modern technologies that
have huge impact in the society. Explain how they revolutionize or change the world. Take note
of the concepts, theories, principles, and laws applied in the production of the technology. State
your answer up to three to five sentences. 10 points each.
Rubrics for 10 points
• 2 points – name of the technology
• 4 points – explanation for its impact/s to the society
• 4 points – knowledge (science) applied in the chosen technology

Example:
A. Name of technology: Computer
B. Impacts to the Society: Computer is one of the common technologies in the modern
world. It was able to bring the society into the information age where the access to
information is endless.
C. Knowledge (Science) behind the technology: It receives data (input) through
external sources (keyboard, mouse and etc.). The input data can be store or process
and return the result (output) of that process through other external sources (printer).
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------A. Name of technology:
Mobile Phones
B. Impacts to the Society:
 Mobile phones are great tools that we utilize regularly and that have become part of
our everyday lives since it enables us to establish and maintain connections with
others and with the outside world. According to Data Oberlo, the number of global
smartphone users is estimated at 6.8 billion, marking a 4.2% annual increase in 2023.
Basically, it is a wireless technology that guides people even we are in different place
we can access information. It has made significant contributions to modern society by
allowing us to access information that will make our lives easier.

C. Knowledge (Science) behind the technology: A microchip in the phone modulates

(or varies) a radio wave using the electrical signal. The radio wave travels through the
air to a nearby cell tower; the tower sends your voice to the person you are calling and
the process is reversed so that the person on the other end can hear your voice.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------A. Name of technology:

Television
B. Impacts to the Society: Television is influential system for transmitting visual
images and sound that are displayed on screens which is very accessible to many

people. It is most engaging and effective mass media for entertainment and
information acquisition. It plays a vital role towards social development and enabling
the economics of the country. This technology provides some information, such as
news, to help people be more aware of and prepared for what is happening in the
world, making it highly accessible to many people. Especially, in the rural areas of
remote areas.   For instance, it can be used by government to relay vital information
related to disaster, weather forecasts, and demonetization which helps people to
survive. This helps inn spreading immediate awareness among people.

C. Knowledge (Science) behind the technology: A standard TV set turns the video
signal into beams of tiny particles called electrons. It shoots these beams at the back of
the screen through a picture tube. The beams “paint” the pixels on the screen in a
series of rows to form the picture.
