DIPNAYSUHUAN JAPANESE
TUNNEL
The Japanese Dipnaysuhuan Tunnel is an
underwater tunnel network in the Philippines,
Tukon Hills, Basque Country The Japanese
imperial forces forced the Ivatans, due to their
strategic position, to dig tunnels for refuge at
Tukon Hills and. From 1941 to 1945, the
soldiers ordered the Ivatans to dig the tunnel,
creating five exit points, chambers, bunkers,
and water reservoir. The bunker served as their
lookout spot while in battle with the Americans.
In these tunnels, the Japanese soldiers hid for
years before the end of World War II.
HOUSE OF DAKAY
House of Dakay is said to be the oldest stone
house existing in Batanes and considered as a
UNESCO Heritage Building.  It is a traditional
structure with thick walls made of stone and
lime and with a roof thatched with cogon grass.
It is Located in the town of San Jose de Ivana
in Batan Island, the structure has remained
intact over the years. The walls are thick and
are made up of stone and lime. Its roof is lasts
for 25 to 30 years and is replaced every 30
years since 1917. The Ivatans call the house
as Vahay ni Dakay which was named after the

OUR LADY OF IMMACULATE CONCEPCION
CATHEDRAL
Canonically named as Our Lady of the
Immaculate Conception Cathedral, the Basco
cathedral and is also commonly known as
Santo Domingo Church is a Roman catholic
cathedral church located in basco, northern
bataan island batanes Philippines. The Said
church is dedicated to Our Lady of the
Immaculate Conception, patroness of Batanes,
while it bears the name Santo Domingo Church
in honor of the patron saint of Basco, the
capital of Batanes.
SABTANG ISLAND
Sabtang Island is one of the major islands
among the ten islands in Batanes. It is
situated in the southernmost part of Batanes
and is the smallest among the three inhabited
islands. Spanish influences first reached the
island in 1786. This led to the baptism of
almost 200 native children and the study of
catechism among the adults. But the Catholic
influence was not entirely implemented
because of the poor health conditions of the
Spanish missionaries.
CHAWA CAVE
 The chawa cave is for the adventurous. It is
believed to be an enchanted cave by the
Ivatans with natural salt beds whose mouth
opens to the South China Sea and is
accessible through the boulders of Chawa
Point. It is four kilometers from Basco.
MT. IRAYA
The morphologically youthful Iraya
stratovolcano is the northernmost active
volcano in the Philippines. It is the most
prominent feature of the 20-km-long Batan
Island, located in the Luzon Strait between
Luzon and Taiwan. The 1.5-km-wide summit
crater is largely filled by a younger cone that
forms the summit.
honesty Cafe aka Honesty Coffee Shop is a
one of a kind store located in Ivana, Batanes.
This coffee shop was originally named Honesty
Cafe in 1998 while some local residents call it
Honesty Store. It is a typical Pinoy Sari-Sari
Store and Coffee Shop combined. Once you
enter the shop, you can sit, relax, and have
some coffee. Each item has a price tag while
some item prices are listed on the wall. The
Majority of tourists intentionally drops
excessive payment to show their support to the
owner.
RUINS OF SONG SONG
Ruins of Songsong is a ghost barangay in
Uyugan which features a cluster of roofless
shells of old houses abandoned after the tidal
wave that hit the island of Batan in the 50s and
is a one hour road trip from Basco. It has a
good stretch of beach recommended for
swimming.
BASCO LIGHTHOUSE
The said lighthouse is perched on a hill called
Naidi, and the place offers one of the most
picturesque sites in the island of Batan.
Naidi is an old sitio ffrom the ivatan words, ‘Na’
which means ‘idi’ meanind settlement. The hills
affords a spectacular panoramic view of
Baluarte bay, basco town, mount iraya and the
rolling hills of batan island.
