Work Sheet-11 Kinematics: 1-D Motion

10. A car travels along a straight road with uniform acceleration. At instants t1 and t 2 , its
position is x1 and x 2 , respectively. Determine its acceleration.
11. A car moves along a straight road with constant acceleration. If v1 and v2 be its average
velocities in the two consecutive time intervals t1 and t 2 , respectively then, determine
its acceleration.
12. After traveling some distance along a straight road with constant acceleration, the speed
of car changes from v1 to v2 . Find the velocity of the car at the mid-point of the path
traveled.
13. A ball is thrown vertically upwards with some velocity. It appears at the same height h
at two different times t1 and t 2 . Determine (a) its initial velocity (b) the value of h (c)
the maximum height attained by it, and (d) the total time of flight.
14. A ball is dropped from certain height. If it takes 0.2 s to travel the last 6m before striking
the ground, then determine the height of drop.
15. A ball is allowed to fall from a height of 120 m. If the gravity disappears after the fall of
2s, then determine the total time taken to reach the ground.
16. Two bodies are thrown vertically upwards with equal velocities of 60 ms1 but with a
time interval of 4s. How long after the throw of second ball the two bodies collide.
17. Two balls are thrown simultaneously from the top of a tower, one vertically up and
another vertically with the same speed. The first ball hits the ground at time t1 and the
second ball hits the ground at time t 2 . Determine the height of tower.
18. A balloon starts rising from the ground with an acceleration of 1.25 ms2. After 8s a
packet is released from the balloon. Find the time taken by the packet to reach the
ground.
