LESSON PLAN IN MATHEMATICS FOR GRADE 7

I. OBJECTIVES:
At the end of discussion, the learners can be able to:
 Determine the algebraic terms and expressions;
 Know how to distinguish variables, constants, terms,
expressions and coefficients in algebra; and
 Apply what they learn to the task that will be given to them.
II. SUBJECT MATTER:
A. Topic: Algebraic Expressions
B. Reference: Online Math Learning – Algebraic Expressions
C. Materials: Cartolina, Whiteboard, Permanent and Whiteboard
Marker
D. Method of Teaching: 5 Process Standards

III. PRELIMINARY ACTIVITY (5 Minutes)

Problem: What is variable? A Constant? Term? Expression? Coefficient?

B. Reasoning and Proof (25 Minutes)

 What is a variable?
 A variable is a symbol, usually a letter, which is used
to represent an unknown number.
 Some examples of variables are:
x, a, t, y, b
 What is a constant?
 What is a term?
 A term can be a number, a variable, or a number and
variable combined by multiplication or division.
 Some examples of terms are:
x, 8, 4y,
 What is an expression?
 Expression can be term or a collection of terms
separated by addition or subtraction operators.
 Some examples are:
6x, 3w – 8, 7b + 5t – 6

 What is a coefficient?
 The number (positive or negative) in the algebraic
term is called the coefficient.
C. Problem Solving (10 Minutes)
Through given pieces of small papers, they can pick randomly a
group in which they will join into.
After forming the group, a task will be given to them to answer.

D. Communication (10 Minutes)

 Rubrics will be followed to score each group’s task.
o The students should prepare at least 1 cheer to
represent their group’s name.
o After all groups presented their cheers, they can start
the given task.
o The first one to finish the task will be given plus points
depending on the remaining time that they have.
o The group who will finish the task will present their
cheer to determine the remaining time.
 After finishing the task, the teacher will randomly pick a
student as a representative of their group to report their
work.
 Lastly, the teacher will check their work and give feedbacks
about the reports of each group.

E. Connection (10 Minutes)

 As an assignment, they must also give at least 2 real life
situations in which they can able to apply what they learned
about algebraic expressions.
