This lesson plan outlines how to teach students to create a straight-through cable. It includes objectives, materials, procedures, and an assessment. The procedures section provides steps for creating the cable such as cable inspection, wire stripping, putting wires in connectors, crimping the connector, and testing. Students will be assessed on their safety, adherence to steps, workmanship, and quality of the finished cable product. After the lesson, students are assigned to research internet protocols and describe different network protocols.

Computer Hardware Servicing 10

I. Objectives:
At the end of the lesson, students should be able to:
a. Identify the different tools used in creating a straight through cable.
b. Perform the steps in creating a straight through cable; and
c. Cite the importance of creating a straight through cable.

II. Subject matter:

Topic: Computer Networking
(Creating Straight-through cable)
Tools/materials/equipment:
▪ Crimping tool
▪ LAN tester
▪ UTP cable
▪ RJ45
▪ Laptop
▪ TV
▪ References: Competency-Based Module in Computer Hardware Servicing
pp. 104-109

III. Procedure:
Teacher’s activity Students Activity

A. Classroom Routine
1. Prayer
I am requesting everybody to please (In the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy
stand for the prayer. Will you please lead Spirit, Amen)
(one student will lead the prayer)
2. Greetings
Good Morning class. Good morning Ma’am.

energizer to warm up your mind and body.
4. Checking of attendance

Review
Let us first recall our previous lesson, last meeting
we’ve discussed what cross over cable is.

Does anyone of you can give the function of cross Ma’am cross over cables is a type of ethernet
over cable? cable used to connect two like devices together.

Very good! Can you give some examples of We use cross over cable when connecting a pc to
devices that uses cross over cables? another pc.

Very Good! Another? Ma’am When connecting a switch to another

switch.

B. Activity

Before we proceed into our next lesson. Let’s play Group 1 – Set 1 (T568A & T568B)
a game. Arrange the following according to the
pin number designations for each color in 568B Group 2 – Set 2 (T568B & T568B.)
and 568A. Each group will arrange color coding
of set 1 which is T568A & T568B and for set 2 is
T568B & T568B.

C. Analysis

Class what did you noticed about our activity a Ma’am arrangement of color coding in Straight
while ago? through cable and cross over cable.
Very Good! We’ve already finished creating cross Yes ma’am
over cable, right?

So, now I’m going to discuss on how to creating

straight through cable.

Let us know first what is a straight through cable. (student will answer)

Very good! Straight through cable are very much

like to cross over cable, Crossover cable are
commonly used to connect same devices directly,
while straight through cable used to connect
unlike devices.

Examples of connecting devices that use straight

through cable?
1. Connecting computer to hub
2. PC to switch
3. Switch to router

Let’s proceed on the procedure in creating straight

through cable.

1. Cable inspection
2. Wire Stripping
3. Putting the wires in the connectors
4. Crimping the connector
5. Repeat steps 2,3 and 4 with the other end of the
cable.
6. Test the cable.

D. Abstraction
Now that you know the steps in creating a straight 1. Cable inspection
cable, can you enumerate the steps? 2. Wire Stripping
3. Putting the wires in the connectors
4. Crimping the connector
5. Repeat steps 2,3 and 4 with the other end of the
cable.
6. Test the cable.

That’s right. It helps to connect a computer to a switch or hub.

What is the importance of creating a straight We can connect a computer to a cable.
through cable? It allows to connect a router WAN port to a cable.

E. Application
The class will be divided into two groups, each
group will give the specific color of each pin of
both end. (Straight Through Cable)

Pin 1 T-568B T-568B Pin 1 T-568B T-568B

1 1 White Orange White Orange

2 2 Orange Orange

3 3 White Green White Green

4 4 Blue Blue

5 5 White Blue White Blue

6 6 Green Green

7 7 White Brown White Brown

8 8 Brown Brown
IV. Assessment /Evaluation
Direction: Students will create straight through cable using 568B color coding arrangement,
by following the steps in creating Straight through cable.

Students’ performances will be evaluated/rated using the Performance Rubrics.

(the teacher will explain how the performances will be assessed through scoring rubrics.)

CRITERIA PERCENTAGE RATING

Safety procedures 15%
Adherence to the procedures 30%
Workmanship 15%
Quality of product 40%
TOTAL: 100%

V. Assignment:
