III. PROCEDURE
A. Preparation:

1. Daily Routine
1.1 Opening Prayer
1.2 Greetings
1.3 Checking of attendance

2. Review of the past lesson

DIFFERENT NETWORK CABLING TOOLS AND MATERIALS
1. UTP Cable 4. Crimping Tool
2. RJ-45 5. Wire stripper
3. Network Cable Tester 6. Punch down tool
B. Presentation
1. Motivation
Show a video clip on computer networks.
2. Raised Up Questions
1. what can you say about the pictures?
2. How computers connect and work?
3. How do computers connect physically?
3. Technical Terms
1. Ethernet cable – a network cable used to connect devices on local area networks such as
PCs, routers, and switches.
2. Computer network – is composed of two or more computers that share data and
resources.
3. Crimping – process joining two pieces of metal (usually a wire and a metal plate) by
deforming one or both of them to hold the other.
4. Local Area Network (LAN) – a group of interconnected computers that are under the
same administrative control.
5. Pin - piece of metal used to fasten two things together.
6. Ethernet/LAN Cabling - the process of creating cable used to create a network that
interconnects computers and other network devices
7. Hub – used as the central object on which computers and other devices are connected.

2 Types of Ethernet LAN Cable

1. Straight-through Cable
2. Crossover Cable

STRAIGHT THROUGH Ethernet cables are the standard cable used for almost all
purposes, and are often called "patch cables". It is highly recommend you duplicate
the color order as shown on the left. Note how the green pair is not side-by-side as
are all the other pairs. This configuration allows  for longer wire runs.

Connections that uses Straight-Through Cable.

Color Codes for Terminating a Straight through Cable

1. T568A
2. T568B

Safety Precautions:
 Avoid horse playing
 Use the proper tool
 Always be on task
 Be vigilant
Materials and Tools used in LAN Cabling
Things you'll need.
 Crimping Tool
 UTP Cable
 RJ-45 Connector
 Cable Tester (optional)

Steps in LAN Cabling

1. Prepare all materials needed.
2. Remove the outer jacket/insulation of the cable to about one inch.
3. Untwist the cable pairs, spread the wires, and arrange them based on T568B color
code.
4. Straighten and flatten the wires between your thumb and forefinger.
5. Trim the untwisted wires to about ½ to ¾ of an inch.
6. The exposed copper pins on the RJ-45 connector must be facing towards you. Ensure
that the wires are in order from left to right starting from pin 1.
7. Insert the wire firmly into the RJ-45 connector until all wires are pushed as far as
possible into the connector.
8. Visually inspect the cable and ensure the right wire codes match the pin numbers and
the eight wires should be pressed firmly against the end of the RJ-45 connector.
9. Place the RJ-45 connector and cable into the crimping tool and crimp the RJ-45
connector until you hear a click from it.
10. Repeat all the previous steps with the other end of the cable.
11. Test the cable using the network cable tester.
Application
The class will divide into 3 groups. Each group will create a straight through cable
following the 11 steps.

8. Generalization
o When do we use a straight-through cable?
Ans. We use straight-through cable when connecting two different devices.
o Give an example of a connection that uses straight-through cable.
Ans. Connecting a computer and a router
o What are the 2 color standards used in straight-through cabling?
Ans. The color standards used are the T568A and T568B
o What color standard is commonly used in industry in creating a straight-
through cable?
Ans. T568B is the color standard used in a straight-through cable.
o What is the color combination of the T568B color standard starting from pin
1 up to pin 8?
Ans. The color combination is white-orange, orange, white-green, blue, white-
blue, green, white-brown, brown.
o For instance, I use T568B on this end of the cable, what color code will I use
on the other end?
Ans. T568B
o What are the steps in creating a straightthrough cable?
Ans. the students enumerate the steps.

9. Evaluation
Quiz
Directions: The following are some of the steps in making a straight-through cable. The steps are
not arranged in order. Arrange each item in order by writing the letter starting from A to E. Write the
letters on the space provided. Each item is worth 1 point.
