Technology and Livelihood Education 10
ICT

I. OBJECTIVES:
At the end of the lesson, 100% of the students will be able to:
a. Identify the common tools used for network cabling;
b. Identify the proper arrangement of color coding of network cabling;
c. Crimp the RJ45 into the UTP cable and make a functioning ethernet cable connected in
crossover and straight-through method.

II. SUBJECT MATTER:

Network Ethernet Cabling
REFERENCE:https://www.guru99.com/difference-between-straight-through-crossovercables

III. MATERIALS:
LCD Monitor, Chalk, Board, Laptop, PowerPoint Presentation, RJ45, UTP-Cat5, Crimping tool,
Wire cutter, Network Cable Tester

IV. PROCEDURE:
a. Prayer
b. greetings
c. Checking of Attendance
d. Review of Past Lessons
The instructor will call randomly from the pool of students and ask whether they
have prior knowledge of Network Cabling, and/or what comes to mind when they
hear the word Network Cabling and/or their experiences regarding Network Cabling
e. Motivation
Title: In Living Color
Instructions: The students are presented with different colors each with corresponding
meaning and are randomly called to provide answers based on the color assigned to
them
f. Lesson Proper

Network Cabling

A straight-through cable is an ethernet cable that connects the wires within it one to one
on both sides. This means that wire one will connect to pin spot one in both connectors,
wire two will connect to pin spot two in both connectors and so on.

A crossover cable is also an ethernet cable. The difference between a straight-through

cable is that it has a different wire sequence between connectors.

RJ45 is a standardized telecommunication network interface for connecting voice and data
equipment to a service provided by a local exchange carrier or long-distance carrier.

UTP cable is a type of communications cable in which two conductors of a single circuit are
twisted together to improve electromagnetic compatibility.

Crimping tool is a device used to conjoin two pieces of metal by deforming one or both of
them in a way that causes them to hold each other.
A Network cable tester is an electronic device that measures the conductive between two
ends of a cable. It also checks and measures signals for correct wiring.

Wire stripper/Cutter pliers are tools that are used or commonly used to remove the
insulation of a wire or cut it.

g. Activity
Title: Network Cabling Performance Task
Instructions: Create a functioning Straight through and Crossover ethernet cables.

h. Generalization
Students will be called randomly to give their thoughts, reflections, and/or takeaways
from the lessons and encourage them to ask questions if they have any.

V. EVALUATION
INSTRUCTION: Read the following questions and choose the correct answer.
1. Where to use straight-through ethernet cables?
a. Same type of devices c. For wiring connections of electricity
b. Non-similar type of devices
2. Where to use crossover ethernet cables?
a. Same type of devices c. For wiring connections of electricity
b. Non-similar type of devices
3. This tool is used to compress and seal a connection of wires
a. Philips Screwdriver c. Crimping tool
b. Cutter Pliers
4. This is the type of cable that is typically used for network cabling.
a. RJ45 c. Solid Wire
b. UTP – Cat 5
5. The part of an ethernet cable that acts as the plug wherein the wires are properly attached
a. RJ45 c. Cable
b. UTP – Cat 5
6. Put the corresponding arrangement of colors in the following numbers assuming that it is a
STRAIGHT-THROUGH connection.
7. Put the corresponding arrangement of colors in the following numbers assuming that it is a
CROSSOVER connection.
8. 3. Put the corresponding arrangement of colors in the following numbers assuming that it is the
other end of a CROSSOVER connection.
