CSS 9

I. TARGETS:
At the end of the lesson, 100% of the 22 students with 90% proficiency will be able to:
1. discuss the straight through cable;
2. apply the step-by-step procedure of creating a straight through cable; and
3. value the importance of applying the procedure of the straight through cable.

II. GENERAL COMPETENCY:

SPECIFIC COMPETENCY:

1. Content Standard: Understand the principles and applications of straight through cables in networking
contexts.

2. Performance Standards: Apply the knowledge of the purpose and design of straight through cables in
network connectivity.

3. Code: TLE_IACSS9

4. Materials/Equipment:
 Laptop
 Projector
 PowerPoint Clicker
 Cellphone
 Cartolina
 Box
 Rj45
 Crimping Tool
 UTP Cable
 Cable Stripper

5. Reference/s:
 Cables Solutions. (2019). Difference between straight-through and crossover cable. Retrieved
from [Link]
[Link]
 Guru99. (2020). Difference between straight-through and crossover cables. Retrieved from
[Link]

6. Learning across curriculum:

● Mathematics:
1. Apply geometric concepts to understand cable lengths and angles required for cable
routing.
2. Calculate signal loss and attenuation based on cable specifications.
● Technology and Engineering:
1. Design and apply straight through cables using proper tools and techniques, applying
principles of precision and accuracy.

7. Numeracy
 Calculate the required length of cable for creating a straight through cable based on given
specifications
8. Literacy
 Read and interpret technical diagrams, schematics, and documentation related to straight
through cables
s
III. PROCEDURE:
A. Preparation
1. Daily Routine
● Prayer

● Greetings

● Checking of Attendance

● Home Activity/Assignment/Agreement:
2. Review:
 The teacher will play a song. And you will pass around a box, and when the music stops,
the student holding the box must decide if a statement given by the teacher is true (fact) or
false (bluff)."

Guide Question:
1. Wires that are made from copper metal.
2. Rj45 refers to connect two Ethernet devices without a hub or for connecting two
hubs.
3. One of the advantage of wired network is more expensive.
4. Ethernet are cable that connect computers and other devices in a network
5. Network node refers to using physical cables, such as Ethernet cables or USB cables, to
connect devices to each other or to a network.
3. Motivation:
 You will trace the letter if you find the tools related to network cabling. And if they know
it kindly trace the letter of the correct answer.

B. Presentation of the lesson

1. Unlocking of Difficulties:
 Wired sequence: Refers to the specific order of colored wires within the cable
 Ports: A connection point on a device like a router where network cables are plugged in
for device connections.
2. Lesson Proper:
• The teacher will present the topic about the straight through cables. And let the students think
about their insights about the given topic such as;
1. Advantage/Disadvantage of straight through cable
2. Purpose of straight through cable
3. Step-by-step procedure of creating straight through cable

III. Application:
• You work as a technician in your company, and one of your colleagues is unable to connect to the
network due to a damaged LAN cable. Your task as a technician is to make a straight-through cable to fix
the network connection issue for your colleague. Your grades will be based on the performance rubrics.
IV. Generalization:
The students will complete the following phrases:
 I learned that: Straight-through cable is a type of Ethernet cable where the wire sequence
at one end of the cable.
 I realized that: Straight-through cables can be really helpful, especially in networking and
technology.
 I felt: Excited upon understanding or connection with the topic of straight-through cables.

V. Evaluation or Assessment:

MULTIPLE CHOICE. Read and understand carefully each question and select the letter of the best
answer.
1. What tool is used to strip the outer skin of a UTP cable?
A. Cable stripper B. Cable Tester C. Crimper D. RJ45
2. What is the standard type of connector for network cables?
A. Cable stripper B. Cable Tester C. RJ45 D. UTP Cable
3. What does UTP acronym means?
A. Unshielded Twisted Pair B. Universal twister print C. Unattended twisted peer D. Universal twister
pair
4. What is the type of network that connects computers and other devices?
A. ANN B. BAN C. LAN D. WAN
5. What is the standard type of connector for network cables?
A. Cable stripper B. Cable Tester C. Crimper D. RJ45 Connector

ANSWER KEY:
1. A
2. D
3. A
4. C
5. D

VI. Assignment/Agreement:

Topic: Network topology

Guide Questions:
1. What is network topology?
2. What are the types of network topology?
3. What are the advantage and disadvantage of network topology?
