LOGICAL ANALYSIS 7
Q2 BIG PERFORMANCE TASK
DESCRIPTORS OF MOTION

Name: Date:

Grade: Section:

I. INTRODUCTION

This activity is designed and written in a way that suits your understanding and needs. It is here to help you master describing
the motion of objects in terms of distance and displacement, speed and velocity, and acceleration (S7FE-IIIa-1).
Specifically, in this activity, you are expected to:
● calculate the acceleration of an object in given scenarios and;
● determine the acceleration values from velocity-time data.

What is acceleration?
Velocity, being a vector quantity, has both magnitude and direction. It is speed with a direction. If either the speed or the
direction (or both ) is changing , then the velocity is changing. When the velocity of an object changes, it is said to be
accelerating. Accelerating objects are objects that are changing their velocities. This means that when an object gets faster, its
velocity changes, so it is accelerating. When it gets slower, it is also changing its velocity, so it is accelerating. When it changes
its direction, it is changing its velocity, so it is accelerating. Remember: No matter how fast an object is going, if it is not
changing its speed or direction, it is not changing its velocity, and it is not accelerating.

II. PROCEDURE
● You are grouped according to your modality; onsite students together and online students together.
● Each member of the group will have a 20m run; onsite students will be administered at school and online students
will be administered at home.
● Each member will do two trials of the run indicating time 1 and time 2.
● The teacher will supervise the time using a stopwatch.
● Gathering of data from the group members will be done by finishing the table on the next part.
● For online students, take a photo of your group while doing the activity and paste it below.

III. DATA. Complete the table below and compute for the acceleration of each member of the group. Convert your values
accurately. Round off your answers into two decimal places.

IV. DISCUSSION. Answer the following questions individually and comprehensively. Cite your references properly.
Copy-pasted answers are invalid.

Questions Answers

1. How are time and distance used to calculate speed or Speed is used as time and velocity is used as distance
velocity?
2. What is the difference between speed and velocity?

Speed is how fast or slow an object or person is velocity is

the acceleration or deceleration of the speed

3. How do you determine if an object is accelerating?

You know if the object is accelerating if its getting

progressively getting faster

4. How do you determine if an object is decelerating?

You can know this when the object is getting progressively

slower
5. How do you determine the velocity of a falling object?
You can Determine this by timing the speed and by video
and look closely if the object gets slower or faster

V. CONCLUSION. Write your conclusion regarding this activity using three sentences only. Copy-pasted answers are
invalid.

My conclusion regarding
This activity that speed and velocity are two different things.
Another conclusion is that without velocity there is no speed and without speed there is no velocity.
Last conclusion is that speed and velocity work as one because one object won't always stay the same speed and one
object won't just stay in one place forever
