Creation and reflection

Due: 20 December 2019

Value: 15.0% of final grade
Submission: submit to Moodle before 11.59pm on the due date

Introduction
You will make something original that expresses emotion, then reflect on the process of
making it.

A. Making (6)

You have complete freedom around what you make, and what you make it from. You can
make something with:

 words – short story, poem

 sounds – song, instrumental piece
 spoken word – an audio recording of a performance or reading of an original piece
 still images – drawing, painting, photograph, collage
 moving images – dance (original or interpretive); mime
 sound and (moving) image – short film, music to accompany an image or film (your
own or someone else’s), a film clip to accompany a pre-existing piece of music
 some variation or combination of any or all of the above – if unsure, ask!

The goal is to communicate emotion to the reader, viewer or listener.

Give your piece a meaningful title.

NOTE: The piece should be something you create specifically FOR this assignment i.e. not
something you already had (unless significantly reworking, adding to or altering it).

You may need to submit the creation and the reflection separately; if a file is larger than
100MB (Moodle upload limit), save it to google docs and put a link to it in the reflection.

B. Reflecting (12)

(a) Content
The reflection must include details of your:

 attitude towards this assignment before you started it

 reason for choosing this particular medium
 original idea/ plan (concept, idea or inspiration)
 everything material you used to make the piece
 the actual steps you followed during the making part
(keep going…)
 whether, once the making began, you followed your original plan or made any
changes to (if so, what sort of changes and why)
 whether the making process was completely trouble-free, or, if you had any
challenges, what were they and how you dealt with them
 the emotion(s) you want this piece to express
 why you chose this title
 how you feel about this piece and the assignment overall once it is complete

NOTE: While the use of ‘I’ is perfectly appropriate in the context of a personal reflection,
the tone of the reflection must otherwise be formal (i.e. essay style)

(b) Format/editing (4):

Your reflection should be

o 200-300 words long
o written in formal language
o 1.5 spaced and size 12 font
o proof-read carefully
