Introduction:
For my classroom-based assessment in coding this year I decided to
design and create a website. I designed and planned the website in
class, I used HTML (Hypertext Markup Language) and cascading style
sheets to create my website, I chose the topic for my web content that
I already know a little bit about and was interested in learning more
about. My topic is Cars. To help me develop my HTML and CSS skills, I
used www.w3schools.ie , www.codeinstitute.net and YouTube videos to
develop my skills.
Aims of my website:
The main purpose of my website is to inform the target audience about
cars. I hope to provide up to date and relevant information on my
topic. I will use trustworthy sources and I will cross-reference my
information with my class notes (On Microsoft Teams) I aim to use
correct elements and tags in my HTML code and will test my website
continuously as I develop it. I aim to work independently for a
substantial portion of this project, But I will ask classmates for
help with coding errors and problem-solving error messages.
The key coding skills I want to develop in this project are
Being numerate
Being creative
Work on my communication
Being literate
Staying safe online
Coding skills
For my coding skills, I will use trinket.io to develop my website. I
will format the website to improve the user experience. I will use
lists to break up texts. And I will create hyperlinks and links to
images. My website design will include common features like
Navigation bar
Hyperlinks
Multiple HTML pages
Cascading style sheets
I will also improve links to external websites
Planning:
Before I started my project, I completed some exercises and online
challenges on trinket.io. This helped me to get familiar with the HTML
elements and tags, and to understand what each element did. I like
using the trinket.io interface as it allows me to preview my website
and write my code, all in the same window. I planned the format and
layout of my pages before I created them. I used a consistent design
of two columns per page so the user could find information easily. I
included a home button on every page so that the user could access
every page easily. Practicing and planning before I started to create
my final website was a good approach for me.
Design of code:
This is page 4.
This is page 5.
This is page 6.
And this is page 7.
I developed my index page first. And commented out the code to show
what each element of code was doing; I used this template as a
starting point for the other pages in my website. This approach will
keep my pages looking consistent and professional.
Testing:
Evaluation:
At the end of the project, I hoped to evaluate 3 things
Product
Teamwork
Skills
Product:
I am incredibly happy with the product as its running smoothly, my
code running smoothly helps user experience, The design can be touched
up a little bit in the time I have left, I enjoyed coding this website
and now I have web development skills which I could use in the future.
Teamwork:
I worked a lot on my own plan and code for the website, But I relied
on students in my class for the testing and feedback of my website. I
learnt how to listen to other people's point of view, And I learned
how to prioritize which feedback to implement and which to discard.
Skills:
I developed my coding skills, my teamwork skills and listening skills.
If I were doing the project over again, I would spend more time on
w3schools and Online tutorials to extend, my HTML and CSS knowledge
