A ROLLER COASTER RIDE

The life of a teenager is like an ant trying to climb a cli . It’s like a pimple that comes and goes o .
It is transitory. I've got various similes for describing it.

It’s lled with various emotions to know, express, and feel down there. Nothing actually seems
“real” to a teenager, they feel like the world should end soon or the way the world is working
should change.

Well for some, it may actually be di erent. They see the world lled with happiness or sometimes
it is just them seeing the world with positivity. According to me, that positivity seems to be
inherited from their forefathers, as I myself cannot take this world to be positive all the time. For
some trying hard to be friends with the other, they feel they are not getting what they want and
they end up su ering from depression and what follows is the thought of ending the current life to
escape from the su erings.

Life has got di erent meanings to many adolescents out there. Do you ever nd yourself getting
really irritable for almost no reason? Or suddenly feeling down without knowing why? Going from
sadness to anger to joy in a matter of minutes can make many teens feel as though they're losing
their grip. But why is the feeling of being on an emotional roller coaster so common among teens?
Dealing with constant pressure and biological changes is part of the answer.

School, future, career choices, relationships with their friends and families are all the topics that
start dominating their very own mind. Most teenagers don’t attain peace of mind just because
they are new to an institution and the distress or terror of getting bullied is always on their mind.

Sometimes, their very own secrets eat them. The fear of protecting their parents from those
secrets suddenly starts spreading its roots. What’s the most important to a teenager is their self-
identity and personality and to be accepted by friends and family. Sometimes they get irritated by
just getting a small pimple on their face, they don’t realise that it usually goes o soon, and they
get conscious about it.

However, a teenager isn’t someone who can be ignored. A teenager is a part of the youth and
future of the nation. This thought is what kills them each day, they hope to perform better day and
night and soon become a part of the race the world is hosting. The race leads to more pressure
on the mind and the fear of losing hampers their mental health. Nobody realises how hard it is to
wake up every morning and ghting battles with your mind.

Moving on to a scienti c approach towards this topic, mood swings are a result of biology. The
onset of puberty in an adolescent leads to the formation of sex hormones which cause physical
changes in the body. But, in some people, they also seem to cause emotional changes — the ups
and downs that sometimes feel out of control. Understanding that almost everyone goes through
mood swings during their teen years makes them easier to handle. Most of the time teenagers
indulge in practices that can risk their future. Some teenagers begin using drugs as a way of
coping with the depression and stress in their lives, while others try them because of peer
pressure. In either case, drug use among teenagers has far-reaching consequences that
negatively a ect their lives. For many teenagers, adolescence represents a time where they will
start – and sometimes end – their rst serious relationships and within these relationships,
mistakes sometimes happen which might lead to pregnancy.

Well, there are many more to it and the list is just endless. There are ways a teen expresses
themselves to avoid any mental pressure.

Pressure can be of any type , and it may spread its roots with each passing day , however dealing
with it is a task! I’m sure you all would want to scream at the end of the day , maybe sit in silence
and guess what ? Never stop ! I would not ask you to take a chill pill , like everyone says. There is
nothing to chill about , all we can do is cool down our minds , divert ourselves , but this doesn’t
mean escaping from the reality. Challenges come in everyone’s life , it’s on us how we surpass
them. Doing our favourite activities , avoiding the judgemental world by focussing on ourselves

and our own development , listening to our preferred music , and facing what’s ahead with
determination and perseverance as our constant companions would de nitely make a di erence
in our lives and the choices we make.

Now , dear readers , this is from me as a teenager to all the teenagers out there -

GET THE HELL OUT OF YOUR MIND AND KNOW THAT YOU ARE GOING TO ROCK THE FLOOR AS
LOUD AS YOU CAN.

PUT ON YOUR EARPHONES AND SING AS IF NO ONE IS LISTENING.

DANCE LIKE NOBODY IS WATCHING , BE YOU , YOURSELF AND YOURS.

You are a precious diamond , worth more than a Kohinoor.

Times can be di cult but nothing is important than your own beautiful smile.

REMEMBER THAT A BIRD SITTING ON A TREE IS NEVER AFRAID OF THE BRANCH BREAKING

BECAUSE ITS TRUST IS NOT ON THE BRANCH BUT ON ITS OWN WINGS.

ALWAYS BELIEVE IN YOURSELF!
