Body image:

To the Editor:

As teenagers enter their adolescence, they become more sensitive to their body images,
which may cause them great anxiety and hinder their healthy development. This is issue I
would like to address in the letter.

In my opinion, concerns about one’s own appearance are totally understandable. However,
excessive concerns that make one so distressed that one cannot eat or sleep are unhealthy
and should be dealt with in the following approaches.

Firstly, we should formulate a more tolerant and friendly standard for appearance and body
shape. Under such standard, youngsters won’t feel stressed because their eyes are not big
enough or their bodies are not slim enough. Additionally, we should put the idea in their
minds that external beauty is far from what we really cherish. Instead, the internal beauty,
such as noble qualities, is what makes a difference. In this way, we can ease teenagers’
distress and perhaps improve their quality.

In conclusion, we should assist sensitive youngsters in getting rid of the struggles with their
body images and focusing on their morals.

Internet addiction:
To the Editor:

Nowadays, the Internet can be accessed through more devices, and the problem of Internet
addiction becomes more severe than ever. Therefore, I am writing to you about this issue.

From my perspective, it is ineffective to strictly forbid youngsters from accessing the

Internet because it will not solve the addiction at root. A more satisfactory choice is to
develop their interests and provide guidance on how to utilize the Internet wisely.

For one thing, the Internet cannot be the only attractive thing around us. Accordingly, we
can ameliorate teenagers’ addiction by diverting their interests to other intriguing activities,
such as sports and travelling. For another thing, the Internet itself offers various usages.
Some are addictive while others educative. Guiding youngsters to the educative side not
only lessens the time spent on the addictive side but also broadens their horizons.

In conclusion, it is high time we helped teenagers reduce their reliance on the Internet and
utilize the Internet in a reasonable way, so that they will not be hurt by the Internet but will
benefit from it.

Yours sincerely,
Aijia
