1 objectives) Lesson/Date: Time: 1:00 - 2:30

Stage 1: Desired Results

Lesson Lesson 10
Overview:
In this lesson we will begin our designs for our cardboard buildings.

GOs:
General Learner Expectations

Students will:

1-7 Construct objects and models of objects, using a variety of different

materials.

1-8 Identify the purpose of different components in a personally constructed

object or model, and identify corresponding components in a related object or
model.

SOs: Specific Learner Expectations

Students will:

1. Select appropriate materials, such as papers, plastics, woods; and design

and build objects, based on the following kinds of construction tasks:
○ construct model buildings; e.g., homes (human, animal, from other
cultures), garages, schools
○ construct model objects; e.g., furniture, equipment, boats, vehicles
○ construct toys; e.g., pop-ups, figures
○ create wind- and water-related artifacts; e.g., dams, water wheels,
boats.
2. Identify component parts of personally constructed objects, and describe
the purpose of each part.
3. Compare two objects that have been constructed for the same purpose,
identify parts in one object that correspond to parts in another, and
identify similarities and differences between these parts.
4. Recognize that products are often developed for specific purposes, and
identify the overall purpose for each model and artifact constructed.

Introduction:

Review of Previous Concepts/New Learning:

Students will come in and meet me at the board

- Due to time we will not do a brain break this time

Right away we will discuss what we have been working on recently (our
designs, building 3D buildings out of paper nets, Dr. Seuss drawings, the my
building sheet, and the attaching cardboard sheet)
- If you are not done those then you will continue to work through those

Transition

I will be introducing something new today

Body:

Learning Activity 1:

I will explain that today when you are done with all your other tasks (and I will
explain that some of us need to speed up with your work - for example everyone
should be done with their buildings and Dr. Seuss work by now and if you are
not then you need to hurry it up)

First under the camera I will show them my example of what I expect and ask
them what they are noticing
- Discussion

Then I will pull up the checklist and I will have students’ read me each line
- There are pictures as well so no one should be asking what each one says
unless they really do not know
Subject/Grade: Science, Grade ½ (gr. 1 objectives) Lesson/Date: Time: 1:00 - 2:30
- Students’ must work through their checklist and ask me before each step
if they can move on - they will be planning the first building they have
signed up for on our “Buildings in our city” list
- This should be their best work and I want to see lots of effort and grade
½ colouring and drawing

I will then show them the material list that they can choose from and that we
need to be thinking of how we are going to build our buildings in our plans
- Again there are pictures so no one should be asking for spelling or what
words say unless they are very unsure - if they need to sit closer to the
board when writing their material list that is okay

We will review our to do list

- I will write our to do list on the board

Then students’ will be sent off to do their work
