Complete a self-audit on your development across the Graduate Teacher Standards linked to relevant data and evidence
from your previous studies and professional experiences.
For this step you need to make an assessment of your progress against the Graduate Teacher Standards. In doing so, you should consider data
and evidence that you have already collated against the standards so that you have ideas about what evidence you can use in discussing your
progress with others.
For each standard you should complete the following three activities:
1. Use the rating scale below to determine your progress towards the Graduate Teacher Standard. Please shade the boxes to indicate your
progress. Use a dark solid colour to indicate all levels you have mastered, and a lighter shade to indicate the level you are currently
developing.
LEVEL 1 – KNOW: I can list and describe a wide range of key concepts and ideas that are involved in this
standard.
LEVEL 2 – UNDERSTAND: I have analysed and can articulate key concepts and ideas for this standard
showing how they are relevant to teaching and learning, and can provide a few examples from my professional
experience.
LEVEL 3 – APPLY: I have integrated the relevant key concepts into a framework that I can discuss and that
influences my practice and I have used this effectively in professional experience.
2. Consider your strengths and needs across the descriptors for each of the seven standards. List at least one point under each of the
headings, Commendations and Recommendations.
3. Identify at least one area that you need to work on in this placement.

WHAT I NEED TO WORK ON THIS PLACEMENT
Use the following SMART goals approach to think through professional learning needs.
You should identify no more than three immediate learning goals related to your
development against the Graduate Teacher Standards. Ideally, you should link these
goals to development towards professional knowledge (Standards 1 & 2), professional
practice (Standards 3, 4 & 5) and professional engagement (Standards 6 & 7).
SMART goals are designed to help you identify that what is realistic and to determine a
deadline. When writing SMART goals use concise language but include relevant
information.
(Copy the following table as many times as necessary. Replace the notes and
questions with your responses.)
Initial Goal State the goal you have in mind as a professional learning
intention.
Specific What do you want to accomplish? Who needs to be included?
When do you want to do this? Why is this a goal?
Measurable How can you measure progress and know if you’ve
successfully met your goal?
Achievable Do you have the skills required to achieve the goal? If not, how
and where can you obtain them? What is the motivation for
this goal? Is the amount of effort required on par with what the
goal will achieve?
Relevant Why am I setting this goal now? Is it aligned with overall
objectives?
Time-bound What’s the deadline and is it realistic?
