Noun

Noun is the name of a person, thing, place, idea or feeling.

Examples

Man, love, boy, girl, hatred, pain, table, sweets, cupboard, reality etc.

Allam Iqbal' is a famous poet.

Computer is a great invention.

Death is a universal truth.

Badshahi mosque is situated in Pakistan.

Jealousy destroys everything.

Sweets were spread on the table.

Umar will go to market.

Knowledge is a great blessing.

Love is the feeling which connects people.

Types of noun
Noun has seven basic kinds. That are

1. Common noun
2. Proper noun
3. Collective noun
4. Material noun
5. Abstract noun
6. Countable noun
7. Uncountable noun

Common Noun:
The name of any common person, place or thing is called common noun.

Examples:

Book, girl, city, bag, tree, mountain etc.

Use of common nouns in sentences:

Book is on the table.

Girl has a beautiful bag.


There are many trees in Villages.

K-2 is the highest mountain in Pakistan.

I bought this pen from city market.

Proper noun
The name of a specific person, place or: thing is called proper noun. It starts with a capital letter.

Lahore is well-known for its historical importance.

Quaid-i-Azam worked hard for an independent country.

Islamabad is the capital of Pakistan.

I recite Holy Quran every day.

Lake View Park is a beautiful place to visit.

Collective Noun:
The names of persons or things which are taken together and spoken as a whole unit are called
"collective noun".

Examples:

Crowd was shouting.

Every country has army to defense.

Audience liked the drama very much.

The jury decided to out bail the accused.

I love my family.

Abstract noun
The noun which denotes an idea, imagination, state or quality rather than an physical absence of
concrete object is known as abstract known.

Examples

Honesty is best policy.

He always speaks truth.

He is kind man.
He loves you.

Material Noun
A substance, ingredient, or thing which we can see and touch and it is used to make other things is
known as material noun.

Examples:

This is a gold ring.

This window is made of wood.

I gifted her a silver neckless.

This shirt is made of fiber.

Countable Noun
The names of persons or objects which can be counted are called "countable nouns".

Examples:

There are six pencils in my bag.

A pen is / powerful than sword.

I bought one dozen oranges.

Birds are flying in the air.

How many friends do you have?

Uncountable Noun
The names of things that cannot be counted in numbers is called "uncountable nouns".

Examples

He gave me a good piece of advice.

She has long hair.

Tea is a refreshing drink.

Honesty is the best policy.


Gold prices are going too high day by day.
