5.1 ENVIRONMENTAL FEASIBILITY

In a manufacturing company of furniture, some woods will be discarded as no

longer useful or required after the completion of a process and that will be considered as
a waste material. In order for the manufacturing company to minimize and manage
waste, the following process must be followed:

Step 1: After the cutting of the materials, put all the excess woods or the woods
that are discarded as no longer useful in the trash bin that is specifically
for waste materials.

Step 2: Segregate the large pieces from the small pieces of woods.

Step 3: Put all the large pieces of wood in a garbage bag. Then donate it to the
government for their livelihood projects.

Step 4: Put all the small pieces of wood in a separate garbage bag then transfer it
in the public trash bin. These are to be collected by the garbage truck of
the government on scheduled dates.

SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

Trees are the primary sources of wood, which is the lifeblood of the
manufacturing company of furniture. Although nowadays, wood can be produced
artificially with the use of recyclable materials, it cannot be denied that trees are still the
main sources of it. Manufacturing companies of furniture made out of wood cannot exist
without trees. With this, it is evident that trees must be preserved and multiplied so that
the manufacturing industry of furniture made out of wood may continue as the time pass
by.

As part of the social responsibility of the company, FOLD-IT and GO will initiate
tree planting program every year in areas where trees are hardly found. Trees give many
benefits not only for the people but also to the environment. It produce oxygen, reduce
or screen noise, a wildlife habitat, UV radiation protection, improve water quality, reduce
greenhouse gas, improve air quality and many more. By planting trees, the company
itself is not only giving back to the environment but also to the community by sharing to
them these are the benefits that the trees give. Aside from initiating tree planting
programs, the company will also be supportive to other tree planting programs that will
be initiated in the area of Olongapo City.

CONTRIBUTION OF THE BUSINESS TO THE SOCIETY

As mentioned above, trees give many benefits and by planting trees these
benefits can be enjoyed by the environment and by the community. It is one way of
giving back by hitting two birds with one stone.

 On the other side, as a manufacturer of furniture in the Philippines, the company
contributes to the pride of the country by manufacturing furniture in unique and
innovative designs, one way to prove that the local products of the Philippines can also
compete with the imported products in the country.

The company also contributes to the society by employing people, helping and
teaching them grow in the manufacturing industry of furniture and giving them the rights
that every worker should have. By simply following the laws, rules and regulations that
exist, like paying taxes on time and disposing waste properly, the company is
contributing to the peacefulness of the whole country.

I. PROGRAM PLANNING
a. How the company will plan for the program
What event: Corporate Social Responsibility Program – Tree Planting
Where: Olongapo City
When: Yearly – December
With whom: All of the employees and owners/partners of the FOLD-IT
and GO Company.
b. What preparations will be done for the program
Planning will be the first step of the program and that will be initiated by the
manager and by the owners/partners of the company. Planning stage will include the
exact target date, which is between June and September, for the program and the exact
target location within Olongapo City. After determining the date and the location, the
company will then start to cooperate with other people who may help the company make
the program possible. With regards to the actual program, transportation will not be a
problem since the company owns a vehicle which can be used for the program and for
the tree planting tools, and each employee and owners/partners will be asked to bring
their own.

The following steps are the procedures in conducting the program.

 First, write a communication letter for the venue chosen, where the CSR is to be
conducted.
 Second, after receiving the approval, purchase seeds from Barangay West
Bajac-Bajac, Olongapo City.
 Third, after purchasing seeds, purchase soil and potting bag.

  Fourth, the preparatory for the seeds will last for at least 1 week and the payment
will only apply for the seeds that grew successfully into seedlings.
c. Why tree planting program?
In choosing the program, the company considered some factors such as
budget, time frame, and benefit. Tree planting program was chosen as their corporate
social responsibility for it is the simplest way that they can do, since the company is just
starting, and it will not require a lot of time for planning but it can give a lot of benefits for
the environment and for the community.

II. PROGRAM GOALS

a. To be profitable.
b. To be an environment and community friendly company.

III. PROGRAM OBJECTIVES

a. To apply Corporate Social Responsibility in a local setting found in the
community.
b. To strengthen the bonds between the employees and the owners/partners of
the company.
c. To enrich the company’s employees’ values and instill obligation and
responsibility to act for the benefit of the environment and of the community.
d. To give back to the environment and to the community.
