Title:

Hollow blocks from steel ply

Objective of the study:

Generally, this study aims to produce hollow blocks from steel ply.

Statement of the problem:

Specifically, this study sought to answer the following questions:

1) What is the efficacy of steel ply as an additive in terms of:

a. Weight (kg)

b. Compressive strength

c. Tensile strength

2) Is there a significant difference between the experimental hollow blocks

(hollow blocks from steel ply) oppose to the commercial hollow blocks in

terms of:

a. Weight (kg)

b. Compressive strength

c. Tensile strength

Details of the procedures

A. Collection and Preparation of the Materials

The reseacher gathers and prepares his 7 and a half sacks of mixed gravel, ½ sack of

cement, 16 liters of water, and old used Ten-wheeler tires at his house in Minaog,

Dipolog City, Zamboanga del Norte. He then placed the old used Ten-wheeler tires

outside in an open area on the ground, then he cleared the area so that no object can catch

fire, he then procedeed to light the tire on fire with the blowing torch until the tire is

open, he lets it cool overnight until the tire is cold and touchable. he then cut the steel ply

at the stem with the bolt cutters, then placed them in a plastic bag. The researcher scoops

7 and a half sacks of mixed gravel then placed them in a sack, He then took ½ sack of

cement, then he poured 16 liters of water into a bucket at his house in Minaog, Dipolog

City, Zamboanga del Norte. He then weighed and measured the materials.

B. Preparing the Concrete Mix

For the creation of the hollow blocks the researcher mixes the mixed gravel and cement,

he then mixes it for 5 minutes with a shovel, after that the researcher cleared a space in

the middle of the mixture, then made it look like a circle, after that the reseacher pours 16

liters of water in the middle of the mixture, then he mixes it for 10 minutes until it turns

into concrete mix,

C. Mixing the Steel Ply and Concrete Mix Together

The researcher mixes the steel ply with the concrete mix then mixes it again for 5 minutes

D. Making the Hollow Blocks

The researcher scoops 3 shovel full of the mixture then poured it into the hollow block

machine/maker, the mixture will then be shaken and formed into hollow blocks, after 10

minutes of shaking and forming the hollow blocks the reseacher picked up the hollow

blocks and placed them on the ground outdoors to dry.

E. Evaluation of the Product

After it dries the researcher weighs the product and test its tensile strength, and

compressive strength, he then compared it to the commercial hollow blocks to see which

is better. The hollow blocks made from steel ply will be the experimental group and the

commercial hollow blocks will be the control group. The reseachers will weigh the

experimental hollow blocks with a weighing scale, then he will test its tensile strength

and compressive strength, the researcher will lay the hollow blocks horizontally, and

force is applied on the hollow blocks surface using the Rebound Hammer or Schmidt

Hammer method.
