To Whom It May Concern,

I am interested in applying for a School Counselor position. This position fits well with my
career aspirations as I graduated from Bowling Green State University with my master’s degree
in School Counseling in May of 2016 and have been the school counselor at Slate Ridge
Elementary School for the past two years and at Dowds Elementary School in Shelby, Ohio from
2017-2021.

I graduated from Otterbein University with a K-12 Spanish Education degree and from Bowling
Green State University with a master’s degree in School Counseling. As a junior in college, I
studied abroad in Spain and during my senior year, I completed my student teaching in Española,
New Mexico. In 2010, I began my first teaching job at Havelock High School in Havelock,
North Carolina, where I taught Spanish I and II and coached cheerleading. I then accepted a job
at Galion High School, where I taught Spanish I and Student Success Skills. I was the teacher
advisor for Student Council, served on the Building Leadership Team and Response to
Intervention Team, and was the technology coach and also a Positive Behavior Intervention
Supports coach for the high school.

I completed both my practicum and internship in school counseling at Galion High School.
During internship, I did individual counseling, group counseling, and taught classroom guidance
lessons. I also helped implement a positive behavior program at the high school. Additionally, I
went to the intermediate school and taught classroom guidance lessons on various topics. I also
had the opportunity to create and teach a new class called Student Success Skills. It was a
semester-long college and career readiness preparation course. Its focus was to develop habits of
successful high school students. I covered topics such as organization and time management,
study skills and note taking, goal setting, leadership skills and character education, and social
and emotional topics.

In May of 2017, I accepted my first school counseling job at Dowds Elementary School in
Shelby, Ohio and in July of 2021, I accepted a position at Slate Ridge Elementary School in
Reynoldsburg, Ohio. In these positions, I offered individual student planning and counseling,
group counseling, classroom guidance lessons, and parent and teacher consultation. I also
arranged special projects through the year such as Start With Hello Week, Socktober, Kindness
Week, and a March Madness Attendance Challenge. Additionally, I serve on the Building
Leadership team, Multi-Tiered System of Support team, and am a Positive Behavior Intervention
Supports coach.

Because of my diverse range of experiences and my seven years of teaching and six years of
school counseling experience, I have worked with all different types of students ranging in age
and backgrounds. I’ve learned the importance of targeting various learning needs and
differentiating instruction for students. I have also learned the importance of collaborating with
colleagues and parents in order to help all students succeed. I hold high expectations for myself
and I’m self-directed and self-motivated. I approach all issues with a positive attitude.

In closing, I feel that I would be a good fit for a school counselor position in your school system.
I would appreciate the opportunity to interview for a position. Thank you for your time and
consideration.

Sincerely,
Molly Miller
