The Implications of Using Michigan's Local School Wellness Policy

as a Model for Policies in Other States

The Michigan State Board of Education has disseminated a

sample fitness policy in the hopes that it will aid local schools

in promoting student health through proper nutrition and physical

activity. The policy is distinguished by its comprehensive

approach to health, quantifiable objectives, and collaborative

framework for achieving those objectives. However, there is room

for improvement in the strategy, particularly in terms of

assessment and research.

The Example Wellness Policy Provided by the Michigan State

Board of Education Can Teach School Districts in Michigan a Great

Deal.

One of the many benefits of having insurance is that it

covers all potential medical expenses in full. This legislation

acknowledges that the physical, emotional, and social health of

students can be affected by a variety of factors, with a focus on

the latter. This method considers not only the intellectual and

physical development of an individual, but also their social and

emotional well-being.

The strategy has objectives that are both comprehensible and

realizable. The intended outcomes of implementing this policy are

expanding student access to nutritious food options in school

cafeterias and encouraging students to engage in more physical

3

activity before, during, and after school. This degree of

specificity in planning is essential for the long-term success of

enterprises and other types of organizations.

At the conclusion of the plan, we will describe the specific

ways in which we intend to collaborate in order to implement the

plan. Everyone in the community, including parents, pupils, and

educators, is encouraged to provide feedback on the proposed

action. By cooperating, these checks and balances can ensure that

the policy faithfully reflects the community's values and goals.

Recent revisions were made to the Model Local School

Wellness Policy that was developed by the Michigan State Board of

Education.

Determining the metrics by which success will be measured is

an excellent method for enhancing the strategy. Despite having

clearly articulated objectives, the strategy provides no

explanation of how those objectives will be achieved. Therefore,

it may be difficult to determine whether or not the increased

happiness reported by students is a direct result of their

involvement in extracurricular activities.

There is space for development in the current legal

mechanisms for combating food insecurity. However, the policy

does not address the issue of food scarcity, which may cause a

pupil to experience starvation in the hours after school has

ended.

Reflection

The Model Local School Health Policy is a document created

by the State Board of Education of Michigan. It is a

comprehensive and well-organized work of writing. This strategy

addresses a significant number of the most vital concerns

regarding the students' health and safety. Any strategy,

regardless of its level of specificity, can be enhanced. Adding

more specific instructions for monitoring and evaluating progress

toward health objectives and finding a solution to the

nutritional problem would enhance the policy's capacity to

promote the health of students.

The Arizona State Board of Education has approved guidelines

for the use of technology in the classroom, including social

media platforms.

The Arizona State Board of Education has recently made

public a document containing recommendations for how teachers can

best utilize social media and mobile devices in the classroom. An

emphasis on the use of technology in the classroom and the

establishment of acceptable boundaries for student conduct

facilitates a presentation of ideas that is both straightforward

and to the point. Some of the recommendations could be enhanced

by providing more specific instructions on how to reduce time

spent on social media.

5

Regarding the use of technology in the classroom, the State of

Arizona imposes specific requirements on students.

One of the reasons why they are beneficial is that the

terminology used to describe the concepts is simple. Providing

examples of appropriate and inappropriate behavior while using

mobile devices and social media simplifies the instruction. This

facilitates user compliance with the recommendations. Providing

instructors with this degree of specificity is advantageous.

It is encouraging to see that one of the priorities is

establishing appropriate limits for the students. Regarding their

professional conduct, educators are held to the same high

standards regardless of whether they are using their own personal

technology or logging into social media accounts. This decreases

the likelihood that instructors and students will engage in

unwelcome interactions.

Lastly, the recommendations demonstrate that the authors

understand the potential benefits that technology can bring to

the classroom. The use of the students' own technological devices

for academic discourse and inquiry is emphasized in this scenario

as an example of an effective instructional strategy.

The Arizona State Board of Education has proposed new guidelines

concerning the use of mobile devices in the classroom.

If the advice included specific recommendations for limiting

social media use outside of work hours, it would be given greater

6

weight. The concepts do not address how teachers should respond

when confronted with inappropriate social media behavior or

content from students or colleagues, despite the fact that

teachers will be counseled on how to maximize their use of social

media and their own devices.

Teachers are frequently in the dark regarding how they

should respond when communicating with the parents and guardians

of their students online. Although the majority of individuals

believe that social media can be a useful tool for developing

relationships, instructors are rarely instructed on how to

regulate student-teacher relationships on Facebook and Twitter.

Reflection

The purpose of the document titled "Social Media and Phone

Advice for Educators," which was published by the Arizona State

Board of Education, was to instruct educators on how to use

social media and personal devices in a way that is beneficial to

their students' learning and does not compromise professional

standards. The key to achieving this objective successfully is to

first acknowledge the positive effects that technology can have

in the classroom, and then emphasize the importance of

establishing reasonable boundaries with the students.
