ASSIGNMENT QUESTION

OBJECTIVE:

The purpose of this assignment is to enable the learners to enhance their knowledge and
understanding on the fundamental concepts of organisation and management. The concepts
can be used to guide the learners to understand the challenges and opportunities in the current
business environment.

REQUIREMENT:

You are required to answer TWO (2) questions. This assignment should be completed
individually.

QUESTION 1

Most of a manager’s time is spent communicating and that communication ability is related
to the manager’s performance. Miscommunication are disruptions and disrupt workflow by
causing delays and interpersonal strike. Communication is important as it serves four main
functions that keep an organisation functioning well. The four main functions are as follows:

1. Control
2. Motivation
3. Emotional expression
4. Information

Choose a company and analyse how those functions can be applied within the organisation in
accordance with the following:

1. Provide clear and relevant information on the background of the Company. Do not
disclose the name of the organisation unless you have obtained permission from the
management.

3. In terms of company management actions, will explain how culture, gender, race or
position influence communication.

QUESTION 2

The COVID-19 pandemic crisis has a great impact on the organisations and increased staff
downsizing activities in organisations. Managing downsizing requires open and honest
communication as the Human Resource department needs to inform staff that they are
released and that the survivors about the company’s new goals, impact on their jobs and
plans.

1. Select an article from a refereed journal pertaining to downsizing activities in


organisations. The article to be reviewed must have been published within the past 5
years. You are to submit your chosen article along with this assignment.

researchers.)

Write a review of the article according to the following format:
