I. Objectives

Content Standard: How evolution through natural selection can result in biodiversity
Performance Standard: Write an essay on the importance of adaptation as a mechanism for
the survival of a species.
Learning Competencies: Explain the occurrence of evolution. S10LT-IIIg-40

At the end of the lesson, students are expected to attain the following objectives
with a at least 75% proficiency level:
1. Identify the key scientists who contributed to the development of the theory
of evolution.
2. Understand the scientific contributions and achievements of these scientists
in the field of evolutionary biology.
3. Evaluate the implications of the theory of evolution for our understanding
of the natural world and human origins.

II. Subject Matter:

a. Topic: Sources Evidence of Evolution
b. Sub-topic: Theory of Evolution
c. Reference: Learner’s Material pages/SLM
Science 10 Quarter 3 – Module 4 pp. 1-21
d. Materials:
For the teacher:
Smart TV (PowerPoint Presentation)
Laptop

e. Time Allotment: 60 minutes

III. Lesson Procedure:

A. Preliminary Activities

1. Prayer
2. Greetings
3. Classroom standards
4. Checking of Attendance

B. Elicit

 The teacher will recall the previous lesson about Evidence from the Fossil
Record and Comparative Anatomy.

C. Engage

 Begin the lesson by asking students what they know about the Theory of
Evolution and which scientists contributed to its development.
 Present a short video that briefly introduces the scientists who contributed to
the theory of Evolution.
 Lead a class discussion on the contributions of each scientist to the
development of the Theory of Evolution.
 Allow time for questions and clarifications.

D. Explore

 Ask the students to work in groups and select one of the scientists.
 Each group will research and prepare a presentation on the selected scientist’s
contribution to the Theory of Evolution.
 Allow time for questions and clarifications.

E. Explain

 Each group will present their findings to the class and explain their selected
scientist’s contribution to the Theory of Evolution.
 The class will discuss and analyze the similarities and differences between the
contributions of each scientist.
 Provide examples of how each scientist’s contribution to the Theory of
Evolution has impacted scientific understanding and society’s beliefs about
the origins of life.

F. Elaborate
 Ask the students to work individually or in pairs to create a timeline that
illustrates the contributions of each scientist to the Theory of Evolution.

 The students will elaborate on their understanding of each scientist’s

contribution by creating a poster or infographic that highlights the key
contributions and scientific discoveries of each scientist.

G. Evaluation

 Evaluate the student’s understanding of the topic through the completion of

the individual or group presentations and timeline/poster/infographic.
 Provide feedback to the students on their work and encourage them to
continue to explore the topic of Evolution in their own time.

H. Extend
 Students can create a scientific report or essay that summarizes the
contributions of each scientist and analyzes the impact of their contributions
on the development of the Theory of Evolution.
