My name is Cassie White and I would like to apply for a teaching position in one of your secondary schools. I
am particularly interested in teaching middle school. I am graduating from Alma College in April 2023, and am
working to complete requirements for Michigan Secondary Standard Certification with an endorsement in
Mathematics.

When I was in tenth grade, I aspired to do many things. One of those things was to be a devoted teacher – one
just like my high school math teacher, Mrs. Karen Bruce. She was one of the best teachers I ever had. It wasn’t
about how she taught the class, however she did it very well. I liked how she cared about each individual
student, making sure they were taken care of. She made sure they felt safe in her classroom, adjusting things as
needed. She also maintained a classroom that was conducive to student learning so that students could achieve
their goals. That is the kind of teacher I aspire to be. Reviewing my resume, you will see how far my goal
has taken me. Choosing mathematics education as my career path at Alma College has endowed me with a
variety of leadership opportunities, which have prepared me for a teaching position.

Throughout my experiences in the classroom, I have developed a variety of skills that have made me a better
teacher. Some of these include multitasking, good time management, and great listening skills. I also learned
new skills from my various work positions. My role as mailing assistant for Alma College Admissions honed
the skills of listener, communicator, and problem solver. These same skills are what have made me successful
on the Alma College Women’s Bowling Team. Being on the team has made me more goal oriented and I gained
the ability to take criticism and improve from it. Likewise, my position as Assistant Teacher at Wee Creations
Preschool gave me hands-on experience working with children and the daily experiences that come with
teaching.

In these positions, I have made myself accessible to students, coordinators, and employers. My primary goal is
to meet the needs of the position for which I am working while also going above and beyond for my students
and community when I am able. I would bring this same level of integrity to this position.

Attached is my resume and details of my coursework. I would be happy to meet with any principals and/or staff
members as needed in preparation for the next teaching year. I look forward to teaching because I truly believe
that every child has the ability to learn. As a first time teacher, I am looking for opportunities to expand on my
knowledge that I have gained from student teaching. I also am looking for support as I further develop my
beliefs and style regarding teaching.
