VISAKHA DAS | 1902106020| 8TH SEMESTER |B.ARCH

1. Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport
Architects: Skidmore, Owings &
Merrill
Year : 1942

The architects hit on this eye-

catching solution (along with
decorative motifs in the flooring
and fixtures) by observing and
consulting with Mumbai-based
designers and craftspeople.
From a vast wall covered in the
work of local artists, to a multi-
tier plan for sorting traffic, to
exquisitely careful siting that
minimizes disruptions to nearby
residents, SOM’s project brings
together technology and
ambiance in an original, organic
synthesis.
2. INDIRA GANDHI INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
Architects: Hafeez Contractor
Year : 2010

Featuring a glass and metal frame

structure, the terminal has spacious
interiors and features arts and
graphical designs that showcase
Indian culture. North light orientation
of the building reduces solar gain
and optimizes daylight illumination.

the first in the world to be awarded

the Leadership in Energy and
Environmental Design (LEED) New
Construction Gold Certification.
3. KEMPEGOWDA INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
Architects: Skidmore, Owings &
Merrill
Year: 2008

The scheme is inspired by

Bengaluru’s history as a “Garden
City,” recalling the area’s expansive
parks and plantings which has
recently declined due to
urbanization.
The terminal’s shopping area will
connect the gates to a vast, three-
story “forest belt” designed to
create an immersive, calming
outdoor experience for passengers.
The forest belt is visible from all key
indoor spaces from arrival gate to
baggage claim, where material
palettes are designed to work in
concert with the natural landscape,
be it brick, natural terrazzo, or
engineered bamboo.
4. BIJU PATNAIK INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
Architects: Lanco Infratech
Year: 1962 renovated IN 2020

The terminal is environment friendly,

built according to green building
standards, with provision for rain
water harvesting, sewage treatment
plants, etc.
The internal walls of the terminal are
decorated with tribal motifs,
designs, masks, and sculptures,
giving travellers a glimpse of
Odisha's rich culture. The new
terminal also has food kiosks, gift
shops, book shops, handloom, art
galleries and handicraft kiosks. The
terminal was built by Lanco
Infratech (Octamec)
