Name: Kristian Lloyd B. Galo Date: April 04, 2023

Section: 12-ABM Jicama

1. In your community, choose an event/issue that you think is newsworthy based on the elements
that we learned in class.

TOPIC: Menstrual Health and Menstrual Disorders Lecture

2. Discuss the elements of news that are evident in your chosen event.

The element/s of news present in this event is/are the following:

 Timeliness – It is timely since most of the attendees were in high school so most of them are
young women that is in their early years of womanhood and may not know that much on
menstrual health and menstrual disorders.

 Significance – As Dr. Zafico mentioned in her presentation, over 300 million women are
menstruating every day, but an estimated 500 million women don’t have access to
menstrual products and facilities for menstrual hygiene management (MHM) (WHO, 2022).
So it is important for events like these to be conducted since not everyone has access to
education, and specifically the menstrual health education the event discusses.

 Progress – As more people are educated on their menstrual health, we can prevent and
deconstruct the stigma that revolves around women during their period and create an
environment where talking about menstrual health is now the norm and not just a sensitive
topic.
